NEXT WEEK

A common mistake by students is to write down 1.4hrs as 1 hour 40 minutes. Why is this a mistake? Your forum this week is to write a decimal time such as 1.4 hrs or 3.2 minutes, and also convert someone elses time to its correct units. for example. 1.4hrs is 1 hr and 4/10 of another hour. 4/10 of an hour is 4/10 * 60 which is 24 minutes, so 1.4hrs is 1 hr and 24 minutes. GO TO THE CLC to post your own question and answer.

Week 7 1 Term 2012

Learning Brief

Theoretical Components
This weeks work is from Prevocational Maths 1. Read page 45 about Graphs the complete Worksheet 2.7 Read pages 54 and 55 of the Text Book. It gives you instructions on creating a graph in Excel. (we haven't given you much theoretical work this week as we want you to put some extra effort into the investigation this week)

Practical Components
Access to Prevocational Maths 1 Worksheet 2.7 Create the 2 graphs used in the example on pages 54 and 55 of the text book (a column graph and a sector graph)

(we haven't given you much practical work this week as we want you to put some extra effort into the investigation this week)

Investigation
As you have created two graphs in excel using the examples from pages 54 and 55 of the text book, your investigation is to now create two different types of graphs out of the following data. You then need to write a comment that explains which is the most useful graphical representation and why you think this. (they could be column or sector or any other type you find in excel) Tri Angle Test 1 -- 38/40 Test 2-- 25/70 Assignment 1-- 69/75 and Assignment 2-- 80/100 Peri Metre Test 1 -- 28/40 Test 2-- 38/70 Assignment 1-- 70/75 and Assignment 2-- 60/100 (Hint - you may want to turn the marks into percentages first)

Quiz Forum

On the cLc this week. Remember the quizzes use typical exam type questions. You should be getting at least 7 or 8 out of 10 if you know the work well.
