PALM SUNDAY - THE SUNDAY OF THE PASSION

PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Lord Jesus, You humbled Yourself and became obedient unto death for me that I might be raised up, given forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Your compassion for me exceeds my expectations and I rejoice in Your salvation. By Your Holy Spirit embolden me to confess You as Lord and empower me to humbly serve You and my neighbor. In Your name I pray. Amen

WELCOME
Welcome to Grace! Hosanna! This is a word we especially hear on this day in the Church Year, but it is also a word that is spoken or sung in the liturgy during the Sanctus in the Service of the Sacrament. We usually do not translate this Hebrew word, but it does us well to be reminded what it means. It means save us, we pray, O Lord. Indeed this was the reason why Jesus came in humble birth, lived a humble life and then humbly went to Jerusalem and the cross that awaited Him there. He did so to provide salvation for us. We would especially like to welcome our visitors. We ask everyone to fill out an attendance card found at each pew and return it to an Usher during the Offering. Children will be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs. Restrooms are also downstairs in this building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. If you have questions please ask our greeters or ushers.

HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion will be celebrated in the 10:45 Service today. In this sacrament we receive Christs very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Those who are not members of Grace are asked to speak with our Pastor before partaking of this sacrament so that the unity of faith might be established. Thank you for honoring this request.

AS WE GATHER
Today begins the most intense contemplation on the very heart and center of the Christian faith, the passion, that is, the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The goal and purpose of all four GospelsMatthew, Mark, Luke, and John is the proclamation of the passion of Christ. Each of them are passion accounts with extended introductions. As such the Word of God before us today addresses every sin, issue, situation and human being in every vocation or station of life. While the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus is the answer to the most fundamental need of deliverance from sin and death, the passion of Christ in His suffering can also provide inspiration for the Christian in handling ourselves in our own problems and sufferings. That inspiration and instruction happens as we keep our eyes fixed not on ourselves but on Jesus Christ.

THE ORDER OF DIVINE SERVICE FOR PALM SUNDAY THE SUNDAY OF THE PASSION

C P

Pre-Service Music Ringing of the Church Bell Prelude

All Glory, Laud, and Honor - Sam Eatherton

Glory to You, O Lord. The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!" And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, "Fear not, daughter of Zion, behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!" His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, "You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him." This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ. Let us go forth in peace, in the name of the Lord.

Nicene Creed (10:45)

C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen

Preface
2 Timothy 4:22; [Colossians 3:1]; [Psalm 136]

It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who accomplished the salvation of mankind by the tree of the cross that, where death arose, there life also might rise again and that the serpent who overcame by the tree of the garden might likewise by the tree of the cross be overcome. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Prayer of Thanksgiving
P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

SUNDAY SCHOOL TODAY - On this Passion Sunday, the Sunday School lesson studies Peter Denies Jesus. Though we, like Peter, deny Jesus and His gifts, Jesus cannot deny us, because we are part of Him, baptized members of His own Body. Instead, He forgives us and welcomes us back. Consider asking, How does Peters denial affect him? In what ways does God forgive us and welcome us back? SUNDAY BIBLE CLASS Pastor Walters Bible Class meets at 9:45 a.m. this morning in Parker Hall. THRIVENT FINANCIAL FOR LUTHERANS THRIVENT BUILDS There are two goals that focus what Grace Lutheran is asked to do for the Thrivent Habitat for Humanity project 2012. One, we need to have 45 volunteers in all. Most important for now is that we need men to assist with the wall raising on the 14th of April. Please sign up on the bridge. A list of 2009 and 2010 volunteers is there. Fill out a volunteer interest form. Two, we are asked to give $2,811 for this project. Fund raising envelopes can be found on the bridge and in the back of the church. Put your envelopes in the Sunday collection. When you complete the volunteer interest form, please indicate if you want a "T" shirt and the size. Make your contributions to "Thrivent Builds" and indicate on the check if you want a tax receipt. John Ohnemus, 664-8753. BASKET OF HOPE A Ministry of Caring As a result of Roxie Becker, the Little Rock Branch coordinator, sharing the Basket of Hope ministry at the LWML Evening Guild last week, the group decided to support this ministry. You can participate in several ways: you can pray for the children receiving baskets, deliver baskets to critically ill children in the hospital, and/or donate items for the infant baskets. Donated items include: baby bottles, rattlers, bibs, booties, blankets, disposable cameras, small photo books, journals or small stuffed animals. Place these items on the table in the breezeway. Brochures with additional information are available in the breezeway. Please join our LWML Evening Guild in supporting this ministry. AED/CPR Class Coming To Grace

ACTS has purchased two AED (Automated External Defibrillators) for Grace. One will be kept in the ECDC and one will be kept near the breezeway. It is important that we become familiar with these devices. Countless lives have been saved by people willing to place the AED and begin CPR on an individual who has had a sudden cardiac event. We have scheduled a AED/CPR class at Grace. Here are the details: Location: ECDC common area. Date: May 5th. Time: 8:30-11:30 AM. Cost: $21:50 per person. Additional Details: We will sign up through the Church Office. The fee is due at sign up. Checks can be made out to James Kolb CPR Plus. The class size is limited to 20 people. All ushers are encouraged to sign up for the class but everyone in the congregation is welcomed to sign up. If more than 20 people are interested we will schedule a second class on a different date. The price is very reasonable and we hope everyone will consider this training. For more information, contact Pat in the Church Office or Randy or Riley Middaugh.
