There are suggestions for teaching English Language Learners and advanced students during each of the lessons. Encourages students to write and draw individually so that they can work at own pace and ability, when appropriate. Students will be reading and listening to books that are more engaging and meaningful to them. If students are engaged, more learning is more likely to take place. Students will do writing that is related to what is being studied in the unit, rather than labeling the room (as in original lesson). Students will be practicing the new skills that they have developed during the lessons. All levels of writers needs will be addressed because they will be able to write at their own level. For ELLs and low-ability students, the phonics lessons will include hands-on manipulation of sounds, letters, and words. I will add lessons that relate to the theme of the unit, which is Around the Town. Students need to be aware of the community around them, which they will probably also be interested in.

I will include opportunities for these students to expand their writing knowledge while the remainder of the class works within the context of the lesson. This will include additional sentence writing and use of inventive spelling. I will continue to ensure that lessons do not just utilize listening or writing skills during the unit. I will try to get students moving, especially since Northeast is a health and wellness school. I will not teach or include information that is above the majority of the class ability and learning levels. Additionally, I will give students time to complete assignments thoughtfully and to answer questions.
