By Marlene S. Gaylinn CT Critics Circle / ctcritics.org YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN (Preview) Palace Theater Waterbury,CT Young Frankenstein, is a product of Mel Brooks, Susan Stroman, and writer Thomas Meehan the same team that created The Producers. Its the Frankenstein monster legend only this time you can expect young Dr. Frankenstein to run into crazy complications most of them ridiculously funny. Highlights are: Transylvania Mania, He Vas My Boyfriend and the delightful, Puttin on The Ritz. 4/13 & 4/14 Tickets: 203 346 2000 LEGALLY BLONDE Westchester Broadway Theatre Elmsford,NY Just in time to celebrate college admissions, Westchester Broadway Theatre brings us Legally Blonde, the award-winning film and Broadway musical by Laurence OKeefe and Nell Benjamin, with book by Heather Hach. A young girl named Elle, cunningly manages to wangle her way into Harvard, despite her questionable, scholarly aptitude. We quickly learn that this tootsies true motivation is not a college education. Its a quest to re-unite with a boyfriend who is a Harvard law student. Its very apparent that this blonde, pink-clad, Barbie Doll in high heels, doesnt fit in with the nerdy, Ivy League crowd. However, Elle does achieve a rewarding education when natural smarts and strong determination twists the fickle finger of fate towards her favor. Kelly Felthous (Elle) is a little cutie as she sings and dances across the stage with handsome boyfriends Robert Ryan (Warner) and Christopher deProphetis (Emmett). There are catchy song and dance numbers but some of the words may be difficult to decipher. While Jonathan Stahl is the Director/Choreographer April 2012 and the lively pop music is under the direction of John Daniels, it was the trained dogs, Bruiser and Newman who really stole the show. Legally Blonde is energetic and easy to enjoy. This dinner theatre offers choices to suit everyones taste and stage viewing is excellent. Plays to 4/29 Tickets: 914-592-2222 A LONG WINTERS TALE AT YALE Yale Repertory Theatre - New Haven, CT Look forward to a refreshing intermission after Act 1 of The Winters Tale at Yale Repertory Theatre. This less performed play requires some concentration and a long, winters journey through two kingdoms in order to examine the human conditions of jealousy and vindictiveness. The brighter second act brings the promise of spring, the restoration of harmony between peoples and satisfies the notion of and they lived happily ever after. We persevere through Shakespeares ancient, wordy language and hold our breaths during a severe snowstorm, survive a bear attack, lose money to a greedy swindler, meet peaceful peasants, join a colorful, folk festival and finally wind up at the marriage of the two, formerly antagonistic kingdoms. When all has ended, we can contemplate the plight of human nature and the causes of wars and perhaps realize that we still havent learned a thing. This extravagant production directed by Liz Diamond, features a large cast headed by excellent actor, Rob Campbell. You will enjoy beautifully designed costumes by Jennifer Moeller, and an impressive set composed of giant, moveable, archways by Michael Yeargan. The choreography is by Randy Duncan and Matthew Suttor composed the live musical accompaniment. Plays to April 7 Tickets: 203-432-1234
