Presented by :

Introduction
Coca-Cola India being one of the largest beverage

companies in India, realized that Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) had to be an integral part of its corporate agenda.
Therefore it had decided to implement a wide range of

initiatives to improve the quality of life of its customers, the workforce, and society at large by protecting the Nature .

Global Challenges
Water Conservation project in Karnataka

Water Stewardship
Energy efficiency and Climate protection Sustainable packaging

Water Conservation Project

Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd. (HCCBL) and Coca-

Cola India are restoring a major lake in the southern state of Karnataka as a part of Water Stewardship program.
Six villages rely on Nalli Gudda Lake, which has depleted

in recent years due to drought and deforestation, for irrigation purposes.

The project will increase the capacity of the 385-acre lake

and boost its annual groundwater recharge potential to 1 million cubic meters.

What is Water Stewardship ?

It is reducing the amount we use per liter of product,

even as we increase our production volume.

Water usage ratio from the year 2004-2010. (Liters of water/Liters of product)

Water Replenishment Goal

Goal : By 2020, safely return to nature and

to communities an amount of water equal to what we use in our finished beverages and their production. Current Status? In 2010 we replenished 23 percent of the water used in our finished beverages (based on 2010 unit case volume globally).

Energy Efficiency & Climate protection

GOAL 1: Phasing out HFC coolers By the end of 2010, Coca Cola had installed approximately 277,000 HFC-free coolersincluding 162,000 in 2010 alone. Additionally, we increased that total to 400,000 by August 31, 2011.

Goal 2: Increasing Energy Efficiency

By the end of 2010, 100 percent of our new glass-door

coolers and 95 percent of our new vending machines and fountain machines were 40 percent more efficient.

Sustainable packaging
Three steps to advance Zero-Waste process :
1.

Designing consumer-preferred, resource-efficient packaging

2. Eliminating waste to landfills 3. Using recycled and/or renewable materials

Step 1: Designing consumer-preferred, resource-efficient packaging

Trimmed the weight of our 20-ounce PET plastic bottle

by more than 25 percent.

Shaved 30 percent from the weight of our 12-ounce

aluminum can.
Lightened our 8-ounce glass bottle by more than 50

percent.

Step 2:Eliminating waste to landfills

We currently recover about 36 percent of the

equivalent bottles and cans we send to market.

By 2015, we plan to recover 50 percent of the

equivalent bottles and cans1 used annually.

Supporting the Reprocessed Polyethylene

Terephthalate (RPET) market.

Step 3: Recycling
Our future target is to source 25 percent of our PET

plastic from recycled or renewable material by 2015. Introduction of PLANT BOTTLE , which is the firstever fully recyclable PET plastic beverage bottle made partially from plants.

Summary
We aimed to achieve a "positive water balance" in India

At the end of 2010, The Coca-Cola system operations in India reached a net zero balance with respect to ground water usage. Additionally ,our system in India is advancing our water stewardship strategy to achieve : what we call a "zero water balance. Plant Bottle is our latest breakthrough innovation in packaging. Final goal is to be the most efficient water user among peer companies. Improve water use efficiency by 20% by the end of 2012, compared with a 2004 baseline.
