AGAINST THE REDS

The Marlins went 3-3 against Cincinnati in 2011, including a 2-1 mark at Great American Ball Park, but have historically struggled in this city. Since 2006, the Fish have come away with just five wins in 20 games, and have an all-time record of 31-49 in
Cincinnati. The Fish have endured an 11-game skid here from May 13, 1998-May 26, 2000, as well as a nine-game slide from
April 19, 2006-September 17, 2009. The longest win-streak in Cincy has gone just five games, from May 27-August 6, 2000.

OPENING DAY STARTER...OF SORTS

Mark Buehrle, the second starter in the Marlins rotation, has made nine career Opening Day starts with a 4-1 record and 3.68
ERA (51.1 IP/21 ER). He was tied with Roy Halladay and Livan Hernandez for the most career Opening Day starting assignments among active pitchers. Halladay is slated to go against the PIttsburgh Pirates this afternoon to give him 10 Opening
Day nods and sole possession of the most among active pitchers. Hernandez, who began the spring with Houston, will start
2012 as part of the Atlanta Braves bullpen.

The Marlins field staff went through a significant overhaul this offseason. Ozzie Guillen was hired as manager on September
28 last year, and he brought with him Joey Cora as his bench coach. In addition to his role as bench coach, Cora will also
work with the infielders. Another new face to the staff is first base/outfield coach Gary Thurman. Holdovers from last season
include third base/infield coach Joe Espada, pitching coach Randy St. Claire to round out the staff.

Miami finished its Grapefruit League slate with a 11-14-4 mark and a second-place finish among NL East teams. Philadelphia
lead the East at 14-16-4. Offensively, the Marlins finished with a .247 average, 50 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs and 74

Acquired: Signed as a free agent on December
9, 2012 (four year contract).
Mark Buehrle is making his National League debut this afternoon, starting the
first game of this three-game set against Cincinnati. Since 2001, Buehrle leads
the Majors in innings pitched (2,425.1), starts (362), quality starts (230), pickoffs
(80) and opponents GIDP (274) and ranks among leaders in wins (4th, 157),
complete games (4th, 27) and shutouts (T11th, 8).
The southpaw posted a 13-9 record with a 3.59 ERA (205.1 IP/82 ER) in 31 starts
for Chicago-AL in 2011. He recorded at-least 10 wins, 30 starts and 200.0 IP for
the 11th consecutive season to mark the longest active streak in the Majors.
Buehrle is the only pitcher to throw a minimum of 200.0 innings in each of last
11 seasons, and the streak of 11-straight campaigns with 10-or-more wins is tied
with CC Sabathia for longest current run in baseball.
Tonight marks Buehrles third career start and appearance against the Reds,
and he owns a 2-0 record and 0.60 ERA (15.0/2) in those starts. He last faced
the Redlegs on June 21, 2009 at Great American Ball Park, earning the win after
tossing 7.0 innings of scoreless ball. He gave up just five hits, walked one and
struck out three. His only other appearance was on June 13, 2001 at US Cellular
Field. He came away with a win in that contest as well, surrendering two runs
(one earned) on five hits while striking out four in 8.0 frames.
The St. Charles, Missouri, native is a four-time American League All-Star (2002,
05-06, 09) and three-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner (2009-11). He
is the only pitcher in history to have thrown multiple no-hitters and earn more
than one Gold Glove. He (2009) and Bob Gibson (1971) are the only two pitchers to throw a no-hitter in the same season they won a Gold Glove.
