The Marlins field staff went through a significant overhaul this offseason. Ozzie Guillen was hired as manager on September
28 last year, and he brought with him Joey Cora as his bench coach. In addition to his role as bench coach, Cora will also
work with the infielders. Another new face to the staff is first base/outfield coach Gary Thurman. Holdovers from last season
include third base/infield coach Joe Espada, pitching coach Randy St. Claire to round out the staff.
Ozzie Guillen returns to South Florida and Miami, where he was the Marlins third base coach from 2002-03. Ozzie spent eight
seasons in the Windy City (678-617; .524), leading the White Sox to two AL Central titles (2005 and 2008) and a 2005 World
Series Championship. Guillen is the 12th manager in Marlins history, and just the fifth manager in MLB history to be acquired
in a trade. The other managers to be traded were Lou Pinella (2002), Chuck Tanner (1977), Joe Gordon (1960) and Jimmy
Dykes (1960). Since 2004, Guillen is the third-winningest active manager in the Majors with 678 wins, behind Mike Scioscia
(733) and Ron Gardenhire (682).

FIELD STAFF
SPRING RECAP
Miami finished its Grapefruit League slate with a 11-14-4 mark and a second-place finish among NL East teams. Philadelphia
lead the East at 14-16-4. Offensively, the Marlins finished with a .247 average, 50 doubles, five triples, 16 home runs and 74
RBI. The pitching staff had a great spring, owning the second-lowest ERA among NL teams at 3.41 (fourth-lowest in MLB),
trailing just St. Louis (3.05) in the Senior Circuit, while surrendering the fewest home runs (15) in Baseball. The defense was
almost as solid as the pitching, with the fielders committing just 14 miscues, second-fewest in the Majors behind Houston (13).
The Fish set a club record for spring training attendance, packing in an average of 7,935 per game (126,961).
