Governor Launches Business Pitch Contest

As part of the kickoff last week of Startup Maryland, Gov. OMalley announced a new busi contest to highlight Maryland entrepreneurs and small business owners. Contest participan their businesses in 10 images using the new social media platform, Pinterest. Winners will on Governor OMalleys Pinterest page and will also receive a prize courtesy ofBaltimore A most recent Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity ranked Maryland 20th in the rate o starting a business, up from 37th.

Maryland Adds 8,000 Jobs in February

Maryland is continuing strong job growth, with a 0.3% increase in February (seasonally ad outpaced the national rate of 0.2%. Since the middle of 2011 Maryland jobs have grown by with Texas for ninth best (see Table 1). During this period, the unemployment rate dropped to 6.5%. Maryland Near Top of New Green Jobs Report

Marylands workforce was more green than all but three other states and the nations cap according to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The first ever Green Go Services Survey, which measured jobs in green services and goods production, found 87, workers held such jobs. Green jobs accounted for 3.6% of all jobs in the state.
