Q2: How did we support our community? 7th parental night was hosted on February 15 from 6:00 pm through 8:00 pm. 80 parents and 13 community members signed in! The guest speakers were the local authors who published Star Night and My Life. 5th Multicultural Book Fair was hosted open to community, students, and staff. 60 books were weeded in January and they were given away to those who support our school and Media Center. We collected $50.35 donations from those generous supporters. The fund was deposited to the Media fund account. 21st Century after school program was hosted Mondays through Thursdays in February.

Black History Month Event on Feb. 6: The media center introduced a hero of African-Americans and provided an opportunity for all students to realize quality and value of the history of Black history. The SLMS also creates a movie trailer to introduce new materials related to African-Americans. The media specialist broadcasts that through school media.

Program 1: We decided to focus on Florence Joyner, an Olympic runner in 1987. The students visit the official web site of Florence Joyner and read some quotes. The classes have discussion what connection they can make. After the events teachers collect the students reflective comments and post them at the media center bulletin board or virtually on the school web site. http://www.florencegriffithjoyner.com/

(http://www.amazon.com/Autobiography-Malcolm-Penguin-ModernClassics/dp/0141185430/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331908165&sr=8-2 ) Valentines Event on Feb.14 : The Comic Club decided to create a fund raising activity to donate to the Media Center. The club created a Valentines card attached to a piece of candy and asked generous donation from the students for delivered that to persons they wish to show their love. The requests were accepted from Feb. 6-10. The cards were delivered on Feb.14 during three lunches in the lunch room. President Day Event on Feb.17 : The Media Center decided to display collage posters on President. This was done through collaboration with Social Study teachers and Fine Art teachers. The students wrote down any knowledge they discovered about the presidents in Social Studies class and posted on a poster with some photographs and images related to the presidents, which was made by students in Fine Arts class. Book Lovers Event on Feb. 27 through March 2: The SLMS decided to have a week-long show-off activity of students who have passion toward books. The media center had placed a box from Feb. 1 to Feb. 24 asking students to complete a sentence prompting I love this book (title) because, and write down on sticky notes. On Feb. 27 the SLMS displayed those responses on a bulletin board.
