ARRANGEMENT

* Teacher desk is strategically placed to allow maximum movement and interaction with students: My desk is placed at the front left corner of the room which will allow students to have the maximum amount of space needed.

* Student desks are arranged in a pattern that allows you to easily move among students (proximity to the student), promotes student learning and encourages group or independent effort: My desks are arranged in traditional rows with plenty of space between them for movement. Lab talbles act as areas for group work.

* Classroom arrangement is designed to maximize learning and minimize distractions: My classroom arrangement allow students the materials necessary (calculators, meter sticks) to accomplish both group and individual tasks in an organized manner.

* Distinct learning areas are available for students: Areas such as a writing center, a creative center, group lab tables, and invididual desks are available for students who need to accomplish different tasks.

* Classroom library is available to students as a resource. The classroom library contains books and materials that are grade and subject appropriate: The classroom has available textbooks and reference materials such as dictionaries, encycolpedias, and thesauri.

* Student technology is appropriate and arranged to promote maximum usage in your room. Student computer is available for all students to use in its own space along with digitial clickers and calculators availabe for each student to use.

SAFETY

* The classroom discipline plan is posted and easy to read: Classroom discipline plan is posted at the front of the room and at the back of the room in large bold print that is easily

accessible for all students.

* Classroom furniture (desks, chairs, bookshelves, etc.) are clean and well maintained: All the desks, chairs, bookshelves, computers, calculators, and other materials are clean and operating without any hazards at the moment.

* Electrical plugs and extension cords are covered and routed away from high traffic areas: Plugs and extension cords are covered and kept away from student areas and restricted to the front of the room under the control of myself.

* Room is arranged so student can quickly and safely exit the classroom if a fire or disaster alarm is called: Rows are spaced and lab tables are arranged to allow for free movement among and out of the classroom making it easy for students to exit from any part of the room.

* Classroom evacuation plan is posted in a conspicuous location: Classroom evacuation plan along with the class rules and procedures is located at the front of the room where students walk in and at the back of the room where group work is done.

* Safety rules for any apparatus or manipulative is posted: Safety is covered before any lab or extra-curricular activity begins and two copies of the lab safety contract are given out (one signed by parents and one kept). Also, a lab safety quiz is taken and must be passed with at least a ninety percent by everyone.

* Lock down procedures are posted by the door and practiced: Lock down procedures are posted along with evacuation plan and rules and procedures and mandatory lock down practices are held by the school at least twice in the semester and I have demonstrated proper lock down procedures several times throughout the year.

* All classroom equipment is in safe working order: All materials that are used for physics labs throughout the year have been checked and some materials have been borrowed from other physics teachers.

MATERIALS

* Textbooks are clean, free from markings, and available to students (either as a classroom set, or an individual book for each student): There are several textbooks available to the class as a classroom set and each student has a textbook that they keep at home for individual work.

* Poster-boards for activities are available: Poster-boards are available in several different colors are available in the prep room between my class and another science class.

* Overhead projector is working: Overhead projector along with the document camera that allows me to show textbooks are documents to the entire class is in working order and hooked up to the computer.

* Bulletin boards are completed and are grade and subject appropriate: Bulletin board includes rules and procedures, evacuation plan, emergency procedures and information relevant to the school day (bell schedules, calendars, etc.).

* Word walls, KWL walls, and learning walls are completed (check spelling, grammar, and accuracy): The posters and student made projects are posted around the room and are properly titled with correct grammar and partitioned off.

* Manipulatives are readily available for students. Materials can be accessed quickly and with little disruption to the class: Paper, pencils, worksheets for class, calculators, and other materials are displayed at the front of the room and allow students to pick them up before class begins.

* School supplies are available (paper, pencils, markers, erasers, scissors): All materials are available and all extra supplies and supplemental materials are on order from the department head.

* Art and science supplies (especially sharp or toxic items) are stored safely away from students: Art supplies (mainly markers) are stored and locked away in my desk and only made available if necessary.

WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT

* Students can easily see instructional displays and presentations from their desks: Student desks are set up to be closer to the front of the room than the lab tables in the back and students who need closer seating are given it.

* Windows and doors are unobstructed. The room is light and welcoming: The windows in the back of the room have the blinds lifted to allow sunlight to come in and the classroom lights are working and on during class.

* Your name, the class, room number, and contact information are posted on the board: This information is posted on the bulletin board, given to students at the beginning of the year, and posted on my school website.

* Your room is decorated to promote student interest and curiosity: Physics posters, models of past projects, and articles about science that deal with physics in particular are posted around the room.
