Job Description: Senior Program Officer Native Assets Research Center POSITION SUMMARY First Nations Development Institute

e (First Nations) is seeking a Senior Program Officer to assist in the administration of projects within the Native Assets Research Center (NARC). Projects are generally focused on asset-building, financial education, family economic security, and associated research and policy. Projects may include, but are not limited to, organizing and planning meetings, writing grant reports, working with grantees under a variety of grant programs, planning and providing training sessions, conducting research, and performing evaluation. This position is often required to work within the specified parameters of grant funded projects. Strict adherence to budget requirements and grant guidelines is also required. A significant portion of the Senior Program Officers time is spent trouble-shooting grant funded projects. This position is also expected to work independently and assist in general organizational and departmental administrative duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION/RESPONSIBILITIES Provides overall leadership and strategic guidance throughout various grant project periods and is responsible for insuring that any selected grantees and partner organizations adhere to all budgets, systems and reporting processes. Works with other program staff to develop and implement grantee technical assistance plans and in coordinating and providing training and technical assistance by phone, through site visits, at conferences and through trainings and workshops. Monitors grant-funded projects to ensure proper grant reporting and compliance. Responsible project management and ensures compliance with all requirements related to project expenditures, procurement and regular financial reporting. Analyzes project financial reports and grant reports to determine progress, identify potential problems and take corrective action. Oversees and manages consultants working under the grant. Works with the accounting department to ensure smooth operations between grantees and First Nations. Works closely with Senior Director of Policy, Research & Asset Building to assist with preparing departmental budget and monitoring income and expenses.

REQUIREMENTS Bachelors degree minimum. Masters degree preferred. Experience in project management. Experience in nonprofit grantwriting and/or grant management. Experience in training and/or adult education desirable. Experience working with American Indian communities. Working knowledge of the historical and current legal status of Tribal Nations. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Self-starter who will take initiative and work independently. Ability to work well with colleagues and consultants to accomplish tasks. Ability to organize and meet deadlines for a wide variety of job assignments simultaneously, with minimum supervision. Strong computer skills, including but not limited to, MS Office, Excel and PowerPoint. Positive attitude, good people skills and the ability to work closely with people at all levels of experience and proficiency required.
