2012 Personal Financial Planning Scholarships


The UC Berkeley Extension Personal Financial Planning Program has established a scholarship fund to recognize exceptional students pursuing their Personal Financial Planning certification. A scholarship recipient will receive a maximum of $1,000.

Eligibility
The 2012 PFP Scholarship will be awarded to two or more extraordinary individuals who best meet the following eligibility criteria: Currently enrolled in the PFP Certificate Program with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.30 or higher Have submitted a written Application (see below) to be judged by the Scholarship Committee

Application and Deadline


Your written application demonstrates your interest in financial planning, academic achievement and leadership skills. Examples of specific leadership skills include demonstrating integrity, vision/strategy, teamwork, coaching, development, communication, persuasion, or adaptability. Your leadership example does not need to be related to Financial Planning. 1. The Application Deadline is 4 oclock pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. 2. 3. A complete application consists of: a. Student Application (attached) b. Personal Statement written by the student. The following questions should be addressed in your Personal Statement: Why you are interested in the field of Personal Financial Planning? What is the importance of this scholarship in meeting your educational goals? What experiences or past achievements will help you succeed in the field of Personal Financial Planning? c. Letter of Reference provided by someone who knows you in a professional capacity demonstrating educational, career and/or community achievement. d. UC Berkeley Extension Transcript which indicates you are enrolled in the PFP Certificate Program and have a GPA of 3.30 or higher e. Supporting Documentation such as your resume or sample projects to demonstrate leadership. Examples of specific leadership skills include demonstrating integrity, vision/strategy, teamwork, coaching, development, communication, persuasion, and adaptability.

Privacy Notification. The State of California Information Practices Act of 1977 requires the University to provide the following information to individuals who are asked to supply information about themselves. All information requested on the application form, with the exception of the social security number, is required for processing the scholarship form. Social Security Number. Your Social Security number is requested by authority of the Regents of the University of California to verify your identity for accurate record keeping. Providing the number is voluntary.

Policies and Procedures


The following are policies and procedures for scholarships in the Personal Financial Planning Certificate Program. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. Failing to adhere to these policies may result in disqualification of your scholarship. 1. Names of all scholarship recipients are placed on file in the UC Berkeley Extension Office. 2. Awardees are required to be officially enrolled in the PFP Certificate Program. 3. The award cannot be transferred to another person or institution. It is for the sole use of the award recipient. However, the award check must be used within 6 months or it will be forfeited. If the award is forfeited, any unused monies are returned to the scholarship fund and will become available for a future scholarship recipient. 4. The PFP scholarship program will pay a maximum of $1,000 to the scholarship recipient. 5. The scholarships apply to Personal Financial Planning and Wealth Management Certificate Program courses only, as stated in curriculum information in brochure.
