Report on school trip to DewanBahasa and Pustaka

On the second semester break, BahasaMelayu organization of Kolej Sultan Ismail has organized a study trip to DewanBahasa and Pustaka, Kuala Lumpur. This trip was held on Saturday, 29th April 2009 and about 40 peoples and two advisor teachers have followed this trip. The main objective for this trip was to recognize a good quality of books especially DBPs books. Student has gained a new knowledge about how books are being published as well as to increase knowledge as parallel to this study trip. Before we went to Kuala Lumpur, the students have been advised to maintain good names of school when they were in Kuala Lumpur. After some brief explanation, our group has departed around 9.30 am. Exactly at 11 pm, we have finally arrived and our group has been treated nicely by the manager of DewanBahasa and Pustaka. He gave an explanation about the history behind DewanBahasa and Pustaka and the aim of it. We were also being given a brief speech about the different parts of building which we went for a visit. Before that, we were given one copy of magazine entitled PelitaBahasa for free. The first place we went was exhibition spot. We were lucky because there were so many books published by DewanBahasa and Pustaka whether it was a new book or old book. The books have been written in Bahasa Malaysia and English and covered different genres of books such as politics, economy and language and furthermore we were exposed to different type of magazines such as PelitaBahasa, DewanMasyarakat, DewanSiswa, DewanPelajar and others. Other than that, we have received good information about the consisted books .After that, we went to see the printing section. Here, they showed us how a printing session happened. The session happened so fast with an advanced technology, systematic technique and a lot of efficient workers. Fortunately, we also could see how the books were arranged according to their respected chapter.

Before heading home, we did not miss our golden chance to buy a few books for our entertainment. We have received a special discount and promotional prices from DewanBahasa and Pustaka . About 3.00 pm, we were delightful because they prepared refreshments for us. This was our final memory there and we went back home about 4.00 pm. This memorable trip has given us benefits in term of we were exposed to knowledge and useful books. This was very important in order to build positive characteristics of student who love books and thirsting for knowledge. Moreover, books are the main reference in students life. Lastly, this trip has instilled enthusiasm and reading spirit among students. At least, we realized how important good books are to promote positive selfimprovement and self- esteem. It was also important to expand our knowledge as knowledge is everything now. Eventhough this was our first visit to DewanBahasa and Pustaka we do hope in future there will be more students in our school who will be interested in joining this kind of trip.
