Overview
Your school is invited to take part in the Ventura County Stars 2011-2012 Best of High School Journalism and Internet competition. RULES 1. Stories must have been written and published in the 2011-2012 school year. Entries must be submitted as published. 3. Sports: 4. Opinion: 5. Column: 6. Review: 7. Feature: 1. News: 2. Series: 2. No more than three entries per category may be submitted per school. Select your top three entries for each category. 3. Judges have the right to change a category if there is a better fit. The decisions of the judges are final.

Categories
Straight news story. A series of articles over time or a grouping of articles at once that represent a significant reporting effort. Can be news, feature or sports. A news-type sports item such as results of a game. An editorial or opinion column that represents the view of the newspaper or writer on a subject of a more serious nature. Commentary or opinion that takes a look at the lighter side of life. Music, movie, theater, book, website, etc. Stories that are of general interest, but not necessarily news. Examples: fashion, places to go, lifestyle, interviews, etc. Best news photo. Best feature photo. Best sports photo. Best website, covering content, use of online tools and interactivity. Submit main site URL. Best online video covering news or sports. Submit direct link to video. Best use of social media tools. Submit one page or campaign with short description. Best comic strip or editorial cartoon created by a student. Best student-produced art that either illustrates a story or stands alone. Examples: charts, graphs, maps, illustrations. This award is for the overall appearance of the print newspaper. Submit complete issues from two different dates. You may attach a note explaining any production constraints. Best overall high school newspaper. Submit one complete issue closest to March 5 or links to all online material published March 5 - 18.

4. Each entry must be submitted with a Journalism Competition entry form. 5. Before attaching entries to the entry sheet, tape entries to a 8.5" x 11" paper or constrain to 8.5 x 11 so it can be photocopied for judging. Printouts directly from websites will be accepted.
