The film is set in the family resort town of Ocean City, a 2- mile wide barrier island in southern New Jersey. The narrative is centered on a day in the life of little Anthony Heavens, a 9-year-old boy who wanders the streets and boardwalk of this small barrier island in search of himself, his father and his own place in the world. Abandoned by his war-torn father and abused by his alcoholic mother. Anthony is reminded of his loss through his mothers violence and from the people he meets on the streets of a city known to be Americas Greatest Family Resort. After discovering his father's whereabouts, Anthony sets out to find him. Along the way he must face his fears, confront the neighborhood bully, and outwit a determined truant officer. Meet Joe Eulo

Hi im Joseph Eulo, the writer, director, and producer of chasing shadows. I began writing this story five years ago in John Russells English Honors course at Union County College in Cranford New Jersey, a place where I discovered my potential and where professors like John encouraged me to explore my interest in film. I am a filmmaker today because of my experiences and relationships I found there. The narrative of this film is based in Ocean City New Jersey during the early 1980s. Ocean City is a special place for a kid to grow up in and this film is loosely based on my adventures and experiences there. I was known by a few as the Waif of Ocean City the kid who gave directions to tourist in the springtime, sold newspapers on the beach in the summer, and helped little old ladies carry groceries bags to their cars in the winter. Mark Soifer was Ocean Citys Public Relations Director back then and he acted, unknowingly to both of us, as a father figure to me. Mark was someone a kid could look up to and count on. Back then I ran errands for Mark and performed odd jobs for the shopkeepers on Asbury Avenue. I been to or in almost every church in town and was saved at least once (or twice) at them all. The congregations of these churches showered me with the attention I desperately sought. Those who knew me back then called me Joey, and the island and the people on it were my greatest solace. Ocean City was the best place to be as a kid. On my many adventures there I met new people, discovered new things, and came to know the island like the back of my hand. I knew where the cracks in the sidewalk were, which planks on the boardwalk were loose and which beaches were best to fly kites. Ocean City was then (and still is now) the best place in the world to grow up. And all though, I moved away, I keep finding myself drawn back to the island standing at the edge of my favorite jetty watching the sunrise and feeding the seagulls. I am returning to Ocean City once more for my latest adventure in April 2012. I will shoot a short fictional film about a 9-year-old boy named Anthony Heavens who roams the streets and boards of this small barrier island in search of himself, his father, and his own place in the world.

Why Should I Help?

Anthony is a character we all can relate to. We understand his desperate need for his fathers attention and his longing for a mothers love. We can relate to his desire to be accepted and can empathize with his sadness when he is rejected. We recognize what it is like to face overwhelming odds and insurmountable obstacles and the happiness and relief when we overcome them. Little Anthony must face his challenges at the tender age of nine. This is a story that should be told and we need your help to make it happen. chasing shadows is an emotional, dark, and gritty story about a child who searches for himself, his father, and his own place in the world. Anthony never gives up, even in his darkest hour, always holding onto his faith and hope for the future. chasing shadows is an emotional, dark, and gritty story, but one with a hope for us all.
