Fuse was lit on bomb


THE fuse had been lit on a dissident bomb which failed to explode at the family home of a Catholic police officer in Londonderry, it has been revealed. Dissident republican group the Real IRA is the chief suspect for planting the under-car pipe bomb which was discovered in the early hours of yesterday morning in the Shantallow area. The bomb was under a vehicle that belonged to the police officers parents. See page 4

Corrymeela founder dies


TRIBUTES have been paid to the founder of the Corrymeela community, Ray Davey, who died yesterday. He established the organisation in 1965 to promote Christian reconciliation and peacebuilding and led it until he retired in 1980. Born in Dunmurry in 1915, he played for the Ulster rugby team before the Second World War.

ULSTER Unionist MEP Jim Nicholson last night dramatically claimed that the gutless, faceless members of his party who forced Tom Elliott out as leader are now briefing against him. In a fierce defence of his own

position, the party veteran warned unnamed senior figures who he believes want him to be replaced as UUP candidate that he will take them out.
