SECTION 07100 WATERPROOFING AND DAMPPROOFING

PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 A. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES All reinforced concrete surfaces shall be protected to the extent specified in Sections 03300 and 03400. The Contractor shall submit design drawings for waterproofing and dampproofing of structures. Related Work: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 1.2 A. QUALITY ASSURANCE Manufacturers and products listed in this specification are included for the Contractors convenience in establishing quality, performance, function, and aesthetic appearance acceptable to the MARAFIQ. Products of other manufacturers, as approved by the MARAFIQ, may be used whose qualities are equivalent to or exceed the specified product. Manufacturers Technical Representative: Start the installation only in the presence of and with the advice of the manufacturers technical representative. SUBMITTALS Products Data: Submit specifications, installation instructions and general recommendations by the manufacturer of waterproofing materials. Include published data or certified test data for each material showing compliance with the requirements. Indicate by transmittal form that one copy of each installation instruction has been distributed to the installer. Guarantee: The Contractor shall for a period of five (5) years repair or replace waterproofing and dampproofing which leaks water or otherwise fails to perform as required within the guarantee period, as listed below due to failure of materials or workmanship. The guarantee shall include an agreement to remove and replace other work which has been superimposed on the water proofing work, to the extent required to repair or replace the waterproofing work.

JOB CONDITIONS Proceed with waterproofing work only after substrate construction and penetrating work have been completed. Weather Conditions: Proceed with waterproofing work only when weather conditions comply with manufacturers recommendations, and will permit the materials to be applied in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturer.

PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.1 A. WATERPROOFING MATERIALS Waterproofing shall be liquid type equal to NITOPROOF 600 manufactured by FOSROC, P.O. Box 11081, Jeddah-21453. DAMPPROOFING MATERIALS Dampproofing shall be impregnating silane base type equal to NITOCOTE DEKGUARD manufactured by FOSROC, P.O. Box 11081, Jeddah-21453. MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS General: Provide primers, fillers, sealers, joint tapes, adhesives, flashings, cant strips and accessories as recommended by the manufacturer of the primary waterproofing and dampproofing materials, for the application shown. Protection Course: On dampproofed/waterproofed surfaces exposed to backfill, provide 12mm thick, asphalt impregnated and coated, rigid fiber-type insulation board.

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.1 A. B. INSPECTION Examine the conditions under which waterproofing work is to be performed. Do not proceed with the work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. PREPARATION OF SUBSTRATE Clean the substrate of projections and substances detrimental to work; comply with recommendations of the prime materials manufacturer. Install cant strips and similar accessories as shown, and as recommended by the prime materials manufacturer even though not shown.

Fill voids, seal joints, and apply bond breakers as recommended by the prime materials manufacturer. Install separate flashings as recommended by the material manufacturer. Comply with details shown and manufacturers recommendations. Prime the substrate as recommended by the material manufacturer. Protection of Other Work: Do not allow liquid and mastic compounds to enter and clog drains and conductors. Prevent spillage and migration onto other surfaces of the work, by masking or otherwise protecting adjoining work. INSTALLATION General: Comply with manufacturers instructions, except where more stringent requirements are shown or specified, and except where project conditions require extra precautions or provisions to ensure satisfactory performance of the work. Retain empty containers of fluid and mastic compounds, to aid in computing the actual average thicknesses of applications.

Waterproofing Installation: 1. Surfaces shall be dry and free from oil, grease, loose particles, decayed materials, moss or algae growth. Liquid waterproofing shall be applied by brush, trowel, squeegee or airless spray (horizontal surfaces only). a. b. Roller Application: Use a short haired synthetic pile roller. Spray Application: Use a Graco King type pump with 60:1 ratio at pressure 5.5 Bar (80 psi). Hose diameter 13mm with 10mm wipened. Tip size 0.58 mm 0.84 mm (23 33 mils.) NITOPROOF 600 HB should be applied by trowel or squeegee (for vertical surfaces).

Liquid Waterproofing shall be applied at a minimum wet film thickness of 1.3 mm (1.3 liters/m2) in addition to the preparatory work.

Dampproofing Installation: 1. Surfaces shall be dry and free from oil, grease, loose particles, decayed matter, moss or algae growth. Curing compounds, if used during curing operations, shall be removed by sand blasting or other mechanical means.

The primer and topcoat shall be applied by brush, spray or roller without thinning. Minimum application rates shall be: a. b. Primer -0.4 liters/m2 Topcoat -0.2 liters/m2

Repeated application of primer/topcoat shall be made to attain the above minimum application rates. The primer shall be allowed to dry for a minimum of two hours before topcoat application.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS The waterproofing shall be water-tight and not deteriorate in excess of limitations published by the manufacturer.
