1. TOPIC OF THE THESIS/PROJECT WORK

HOTEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM" RESTAURANRNT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

2. INTRODUCTION AND RELATED WORK DONE: 2.1 INTRODUCTION
In our project, on hotel management system, we have tried to show how the Data/i n formati on i n hotels is man aged. T his i s just an ov ervi ew of management in hotels. This has been achieved by dividing the project into various modules. Customer is provided with different services like booking, booking can be advance booking or current booking. If the customer wants he/she can cancel his/her advance booking. Enquiry about any customer can be made either by customer id or customer name. Enquiry about room can also be made. Our project also includes the module for Restaurant facility. Customer can order for Break fast, Lunch, Dinn er or Refreshment. Our project will generate reports for customer, employees (working in hotel) and Bill for customer is generated when the customer will check out from the hotel. We have included only few modules as our Purpose is to only have the idea or to study about how the management is done in hotels. By adding many more modules this type

of project can have scope in various hotels. We have used MS Access for developing this project and language u s e d i s J A V A i s used as a back-end for all data/information processing. Operating system is Windows 2000/XP. Project is feasible since i t fulfi lls the requi rements that any softw are n eeds to b e operati on ally , e c o n o m i c a l l y a n d t e c h n i c a l l y f e a s i b l e . T h e p r o j e c t i s b u i l t o n J A V A , which manages type-safe environment for its application development and execution. This environment administers all aspects of program execution. After going through the existing system, problem was identified and the scope of development was finalized.

2.2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE

In todays era when the world is moving at such a fast pace, it is the most requirement that the processing in all fields should be as fast as possible. To achieve this purpose, I tried to make the present manual Hotel Management System computerized one. If the present system is maintained, a lot of paper work is required, many registers have to be maintained and a lot of duplication of records may be there. In proposed computerized system, all the required data is stored in a d a ta b a s e a nd the q u e r y p ro c e s s i n g o f u s e r i s v e r y f a s t. I t p ro v i d e s various functionalities within a narrow time window. T he i n te rf a c e o f m y s ys te m i s a v e r y u s e r f r i e nd l y a nd p ro v i d e s a better functionality as compared to the present manual system.

3.3 OBJECTIVES OF STUDY

When everyone on the project team has conflicting objectives, the Project is bound to suffer. For example, the user demands a Workable system, while the designer strives for a high powered Code. The comptroller interprets success from the bottom line, whatever the cost. This project is for Hotel Management Automation. It is a very efficient and has many important features for different operations. It is capable for p e r fo rm a l l o p e r a ti o ns re l a te d to a u to m a ti o n a nd re po r t i n g s ys te m o f hotel . It is a multi user program that can be runs on the network. It has v e ry s i m p l e i n te r fa c e s o t he u s e r c a n o p e ra te i t v e r y e a s i l y. T he m o s t i m p o r t a n t f e a t u r e o f t h i s p r o j e c t i s i t s s e c u r i t y o p t i o n s t o p r e v e n t unauthorized access. It has very easy and common interface and options so it is user-friendly software .

Another main thing is that the software is created indifferent modules so the manipulations can be done easily. One of the m o s t i m p o r ta nt b e ne f i t s o f the m o d u l a r d e s i g ni ng i s t h a t t he te s ti ng becomes very easy.

The output can be getting easily by using its feature. This can be done t h ro u g h M i c ro s o ft C r ys ta l Re p or t s . T he fo rm a t o f t he re p o r ts i s v e r y simple and easy to understand by the user. The project is capable and flexible to fulfill the entire requirements related to automation and reporting system of hotel. So this software can be fe a s i b l e a nd re l i a b l e i n f u tu re . I t c a n p ro d u c e the o u tp u t v e ry e f fi c i e nt l y without or minimum changes

4. SCOPE AND RELAVANCE OF STUDY

Any pr oje ct ne ve r is conside re d whole. Whe the r one claims that His/he r pr oduct is the whole , this is out of se nse . Eve n t he pr oduct of Microsoft and Sun Microsystems are still in the development cycle however t he ir some ve rsions are re le ased. The re le ase d ve rsion of the pre s e nte d project will also be reviewed and maintained continuously. Because this project is ultimately analyzed, designed, tested, implemented by me, there may be many issues to be tackled in the project. But I hope that the current version will be useful for the institutes that want to switch from manual to computer system. But my tries and your advises always keeps this application progressive. And if all will correct the next improved version of this project will be in front of you. Developing software on a topic like hotel management system has much scope. It can be made more attractive and many more modules can be att ache d t o pr ovide var ious se rvices t o cust omer.

Our pr oje ct pr ovide s various services to the customer like booking (advance/current), cancellation of advance booking, enquiring about any customer (by name/customer Id) or about room availability. It also gives restaurant facilities (breakfast, lunch, dinne r, re fre shme nt). The pr oje ct has Scope in hote ls since the r out ine activities of managing departments become easy.

5. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Visual Basic is one of the languages supported by this

platform. It is a p o w e r f u l a n d e a s y t o u s e p r o g r a m m i n g l a n g u a g e . I t h a s v a r i o u s s p e c i a l fe a tu re s , w h i c h m a k e i t wo r t h wo rk i n g w i th . So m e o f t he features are: It is a complete Object Oriented Language It support a large number of data types along with many new data types It also supports exception handling model It supports rapidly build GUI applications It supports high performance Databases These features along with some other special features help in developing the current project.
