This paper presents a quasilumped microstrip structure highpass filter having a cutoff frequency 1.5 GHz. The quasilumped elements used for this design have their size smaller then the quarter of the guided wavelength at the operating frequency. The proposed designs is a three pole filter, consisting of short circuit stub transmission line and inter digital capacitors on a commercial substrate having relative dielectric constant 4.7 and 1.6 mm of thickness. A sample filter is designed based upon the theory presented and it has been simulated with the Sparameters using IE3D software. Keywords: Quasilumped physical size smaller then g/4 at 1.5 GHz.

2. Design Parameters and Analysis

Figure-1 presents the quasilumped high pass filter, designed using the normalized Chebyshev prototype element values and inter-digital capacitance techniques [1-2]. For which the parameter considered are: Cut-off frequency, fc = 1.5 GHz. Relative Dielectric Constant, r = 4.7 Height of substrate, h = 1.6 mm The substrate used is - RT/D-5880 Characteristic Impedance, ZO =50 Wc = 2.91 Zoc = 20 ZOL = 90 g1 = g3 = 1.0316 g2 = 1.1474 The final dimentions of the filter shown in the figure-1 have been determined after taking into account the elements of discontinueties and parasitical parameters.

1. Introduction
Microstrip filters are used to select or confine the microwave signals within assigned spectral limits. In design and realization of microstrip filters; short section of transmission line or stub, whose length is much smaller than a quarter of guided wavelength ( g), are the most common components. A small open circuited loss less microstrip line stub can be equivalent to shunt capacitor and similarly small short circuited line can be equivalent to shunt inductor. For a more selective highpass filter, more of such elements are required [1-9]. In this paper, a highpass filter comprising interdigital microstrip capacitors and short circuited stub is designed using PCAAD software and conventional techniques [1-5]. The table-1 presents the inter-digital capacitor parameters and table-2 presents the finalized parameters of the filter. This is followed by S-parameters simulated results using the IE3D software [10].

3. Results and discussions

S-parameters simulated results (figure-2) shows that the sample quasilumped high pass filter have cut off frequency, 1.5 GHz and it has a flat high pass band of 2.0 GHz. This high pass filter has attenuation level as low as -85 db, which is better than those of optimum distributed high pass filters. Such filters can be useful in applications, wherein very low power microwave signals are to be handled i.e. in remote sensing satellite and in electronic warfare.
