Awesome Archaeology Supersized Weekend 2-3 June, Drop-in sessions from 11am-4pm Discover Cornwall and the sea in the Bronze Age with our 2012BC exhibition and meet the experimental archaeologists unlocking the secrets of life 4000 years ago. Enjoy live demonstrations of prehistoric technology and try your hand at casting axe heads made from chocolate! Bronze Age Bonanza 2-10 June, 12-3.30pm Experience hands-on history at the Maritime Museum: make ancient amulets, Bronze Age bracelets, and prehistoric boat models. Hunt and Gather 2-10 June, 10am-5pm Be a hunter gatherer - can you find the things you need to survive in the Bronze Age? Douglas Dappers Prehistoric Frolic 5 & 7 June, 11.30 am, 2 pm and 3.30 pm Join the Story Explorer on a journey into Cornwalls prehistoric past. Once upon a time 4, 6 & 8 June, 11.30 am, 2 pm and 3.30 pm From the legendary labours of Hercules to the myth of the Minotaur, be captivated by the legends and fables of the ancient world.

SPECIAL EVENT - The Matthew

11 - 17 June* Climb aboard the historic replica of the tall ship John Cabot sailed from Bristol, when he discovered Newfoundland in 1497. Meet the crew and discover the history of this magnificent vessel.

Building a Bronze Age Boat

14 June, 7.30pm As part of the 2012BC exhibition, a Bronze Age-type sewn-plank boat will be constructed at the Maritime Museum. Join project director Prof Robert Van de Noort as he provides the archaeological background to the discoveries of sewn-plank boats in England and Wales, and explains how these craft were used in the Bronze Age.

Bronze Age Cornwall and Distant Lands

21 June, 7.30pm Why was Cornwall so important in the Bronze Age? Prof Anthony Harding will introduce the fascinating and varied evidence for far-reaching trade contacts with the wider world at the time of the reconstructed boat.

Developed by the RYA, in association with Our Sporting Life, discover how Great Britain cemented its place as the worlds most successful Olympic and Paralympic sailing nation through the captivating anecdotes, photographs and keepsakes of those heroes who made sailing history. Our Sporting Life Sail for Gold is the only exhibition in Cornwall approved by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, so its not to be missed.

Newly launched 2012BC: Cornwall and the Sea in the Bronze Age 13 Apr - 30 Sept
An exhibition unlocking Cornwalls Bronze Age maritime heritage. Witness a live reconstruction of a prehistoric boat, supported by rare historic artefacts never before seen in the UK. This ambitious, challenging and never been done before project aims to recreate the oldest boat ever found in Western Europe, dating to around 2000 BC, using replicas of ancient tools. Discover Cornwalls ancient links to the rest of the world, and explore the evidence for Bronze Age trade and exploration beyond our shores.

The Breton Connection 30 Mar 2012 - 15 Jul 2012

Explore the age-old ties between Cornish and Breton fishing communities through a stunning collection of black and white photography. Discover the friendships formed between these two fishing communities and the beautiful craft the Breton crews sailed to fish for crawfish off the Cornish coast. This collection of images has never been exhibited before and draws on a rare collection of images taken by Oliver Hill in Newlyn in the early 20th century.

On the Waterfront 17 Oct 2011 - 10 Jun 2012

A unique collaboration with Textiles Plus, a group of Cornish artists working in a wide variety of textile techniques. To celebrate Falmouth 350, On the Waterfront combines a large scale installation based on colours representing the sea, sky and countryside, with individual works inspired by boats of every shape and size, people past and present and the history and architecture of Falmouth.
