The cost of putting Paul in the movie was 1/3 of their budget but they felt this was a necessity to target the audience.

Storyline - Two sci-fi geeks take a pilgrimage to America's UFO heartland. While there, they accidentally meet an alien who brings them on an insane road trip that alters their universe forever. For the past 60 years, an alien named Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen) has been hanging out at a topsecret military base. When he discovers he's been taken prisoner, the space-traveling smart ass decides to escape the compound and hop on the first vehicle out of town - a rented RV containing Earthlings Graeme Willy (Simon Pegg) and Clive Gollings (Nick Frost). Chased by federal agents and the fanatical father of a young woman that they accidentally kidnap, Graeme and Clive hatch a fumbling escape plan to return Paul to his mother ship. And as two nerds struggle to help, one little green man might just take his fellow outcasts from misfits to intergalactic heroes. WT felt they needed to keep the alien Pauls voice very real in order to make it work. Media Coverage To market the film they posted online videos of behind the scenes showing the cast having fun. This benefitted WT as it gains interest from the audience. As the audience are teenagers and families they know that teens are going to be on the internet. They also used Simon Peggs twitter account whereby he posted tweets about the new upcoming film, one of the fastest and cheapest ways of advertisement. Release of the Blu-ray film - This included: The films theatrical cut. An unrated version. A commentary track. A blooper reel and a feature about the evolution of the special effects work that went into creating the alien. Photo galleries story boards and posters. For a limited time only, the Combo Pack also included a digital copy of the unrated film that can be viewed anytime, anywhere on an array of digital devices.
