Report
We were asked to determine the volume of a certain object by using Simpsons Rule or the
Trapaziodal Rule. I started by taking measurements of the object.I measured how long
it was and took 25 width measuremnts every 4 mm. All this was done using a caliper and
used milimeters as my unit. After this I had some ttrouble thinkin about a way to put
all the information together to revolve it and find the volume. Since we needed to
revolve the object it was necesary to divide the measuremnts in half this way it coud be
graphed and be revolved to make it in a 3 D figure. After dividing the length into 25 and
dividing the 25 width measurements by two I put all the information into mathematica,
folllowing the exaple provided by the professor on how to imput the information
in mathematica.After i completed this I had a 3 D figure. Then I computed for
the volume using the equation NIntegrate@f@xD ^ 2D which gave me a final result
of 109 734 mm. Now the last step was to use Simmpson ' s rule and compare the
results. Simpson ' s Rule gave me an answer of 112 982 mm a diference of 3248 mm.
