ARCHIVE RESEARCH STUDY CENTER (ARSC) STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD [2012]

UCLA Film & Television Archive is offering a single Student Research Award of $3,000 for the 2012 calendar year. The purpose of the award is to:

Recognize excellence in UCLA graduate student writing based on extensive research viewing of material held by UCLA Film & Television Archive. Encourage research access to moving image collections held by the Archive.

Eligibility Application

Enrolled UCLA Masters of Arts students that will not graduate in 2012. Enrolled UCLA PhD students that will not advance to candidacy in 2012. Enrolled MA and PhD students from all UCLA departments are invited to apply.

Complete and submit the ARSC Award Application form; due to ARSC by April 16, 2012. Submit a formal 800-1000 word narrative proposal for a paper or article that will require extensive research viewing of UCLA Film & Television Archive holdings. Proposal must explicate your topic and include a filmography of Archive holdings that are central to your research.

Selection Award recipient will be selected from the narrative proposal that best reflects original scholarship and relevance of Archive holdings to the proposed research. Award will be distributed to recipient upon submission of completed paper/article as described in proposal. Paper/article must be completed by 12/14/2012.

About the Archives Collections UCLA Film & Television Archive holds over 250,000 films and television programs produced from the 1890s to the present. The collection includes independent and studio-produced shorts and feature films, advertising and industrial films, documentaries, local and network TV programming, commercials, news and public affairs broadcasts, and 27 million feet of newsreels produced between 1919 and 1971. The Archive Research and Study Center (ARSC) coordinates thousands of individual viewing appointments annually, facilitating access to the Archive's rare collections in UCLA's Instructional Media Lab.
