Following the sale, Charles Miller said: Our sale was perfectly timed, when Maritime history is at the forefront of many peoples minds the re-opening of the Cutty Sark, the 75th Anniversary of the National Maritime Museum, just days away and 10 days since the 100th Anniversary of the Titanic. We were delighted with the results which saw very strong prices for the maritime objects such as models several of which had to be viewed off site but still sold extremely well. The Scrimshaw sold well and I was pleased to see several new bidders, many who are taking advantage of the online bidding service. Notable pieces included the Magic Lantern from Shackletons Expedition, which fetched well above estimate and attracted a lot of interest, particularly on the telephone. I am pleased to see that lot 198 sold well above estimate too these were popular with N. American buyers a few years ago and are again attracting strong interest. We look forward to our next sale on October 31, 2012.
