Jersey Boys

Jersey Boys The West End production of Jersey Boys opened on the 28th of February 2008 at the Prince Edward Theatre. Four years on, it continues to enjoy packed attendances by the public and is one of the star attractions of the West End. The Jersey Boys is a musical built around a rather effective formula - the jukebox musical. The music of the Four Seasons, a very, very popular 1960s Rock & Roll band, is the inspiration for the show. The band was once regarded as the most popular group in pop music before the Beatles came along. The musical contains nearly all the popular songs of the Four Seasons including Beggin', Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Oh What A Night, Walk Like A Man, Bye Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye), Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry. The plot of Jersey Boys is the real-life story of Franki Valli and the members of the band. All of whom hailed from the US city of New Jersey. Their story is told in two acts and a finale and through their numerous hit songs. Various members of the band take on the narrative task at different times during the show. The stars of the West End Jersey Boys have regularly taken part in charity shows, raising large sums of money. In December 2008, they appeared in the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium. Several members of the Royal Family were in attendance. The Jersey Boys stage shows carry on the success of the Four Seasons with more than 4 million people, worldwide, attending their performances from New York and Toronto to London and Melbourne. So popular are the performances that is does not look like stopping any day soon. The West End adaption of the show is produced by the Julian Stoneman Associates who have many other successful shows to their credit. The show has won 54 awards worldwide. The West End production has taken home the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical in 2008 and the same year it won Best Actor in a Musical, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical and Best Set Design from WhatsOnStage.com.
