Figurative use of Language figurative adjective of words or language used with a meaning that is different from the basic

meaning, and that expresses an idea in an interesting way by using language that usually describes something else : not literal ex.: The phrase "know your ropes" literally means "to know alot about ropes,'"while its figurativer meaning is "to know a lot about how to do something." literal adjective involving the ordinary or usual meaning of a word ex.: I was using the word in its literal sense.
