Secretariat Born March 30, 1970 Secretariat became one of the most famous racehorses in history. A chestnut colt, secretariat was bred up in Caroline County, Virginia. He won the Triple Crown, a series of three races consisting of the Kentucky derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes. It had been twenty-five years since the last winner. Mark Spitz A retired swimmer, Mark Spitz was born February 10, 1950. Winning seven gold medals in the Munich Olympic Games in 1972 for the United States, between 1968-1972, he set thirtythree world records and was Swimmer of the Year in 1969, 1971, and 1972. Roberto Clemente Although dying on December 31, 1972 Roberto Clemente was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. He was the first Latino to be elected into the Hall of Fame, and it was a great honor for him, his family, and history. He played for the Pittsburg Pirates all the way up until 1972, playing for eighteen years.

Hawaii Five-0 Airing for twelve seasons from 1968-1980, Hawaii Five-o. Created by Leonard Freeman, takes place in the Hawaiian Islands. The main character Steve McGarrett portrayed at that time by Jack Lord, led his team of four people,solving tough crimes. Not being apart of the normal police department, the Five-O was a special forces unit that took down the big guys. The other characters Danny Williams, Kono Kalakaua, and Chin Ho Kelly were played by James McArthur, Zulu, and Kam Fong, and after every episode, McGarrett would say Bookem Danno, to Danny Williams after busting someone. Jaws

Directed by Steven Spielberg based on a novel written by Peter Benchleys. Jaws was a thriller/horror film made in 1975. It was about a great white shark who attacked and ate people. The police chief of the town Amity Island closes down the beach and hires a marine biologist and professional shark hunter. Played by Roy Schnieder police chief Martin Brody, Richard Dreyfuss as the marine biologist Matt Hooper, and Robert Shaw Quint the shark hunter. After many deaths, and many tries to kill the great white, Quint is eaten alive by the shark. But Brody shoves a scuba tank into its mouth and uses Quints gun to shoot the tank. He shoots and the shark explodes and dies.

M*A*S*H

M*A*S*H the movie was written by Ring Lardner Jr. and directed by Robert Altman in 1970. Based on a novel written by Richard Hooker, the movie follows a unit of medical personnel in the Korean War. Starring Donald Sutherland*, Tom Skerritt*, Elliot Cloud*, Sally Kellerman*, Robert Duvall*, Gary Burghoff*, Rene Auberjonois*, and Fred Williamson*, M*A*S*H was a black comedy about a mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War.

Aerosmith A hard rock band Aerosmith emerged in 1970 with cool new twist involving some blues mixed with hard rock. They formed in Boston, Massachusetts, Joe Perry as the guitarist, Tom Hamilton on Bass, Joey Kramer the drummer, and Steven Tyler the lead singer. Dream On one of Aerosmiths biggest hits and popular songs to this day was released in 1973 on the album Aerosmith and number six on billboard top 100. Between 1970-79 they released six singles and six albums. The singles were Sweet Emotion, Dream On, Last Child, Walk This Way, Back in the Saddle, and Come Together. The albums were Aerosmith, Get Your Wings, Toys in the Attic,

Rocs, Draw the Line, and Night in the Ruts.

The Who An English rock band formed in 1964, called The Who, the group consisted of Roger Daltery, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle, and Keith Moon. Making many big hits, The Whos biggest and fastest selling song of the 70s was Who Are You becoming #2 in the United States and became platinuim on September 20th. In 1979 the band decided to make a documentary called The Kids Are Alright about Quadrophenia

in 1979. Showing the bands best and most exciting moments while performing and included their last performance with Keith Moon. They had made their mark in history being the third band to be on the cover of Time, behind the Beatles and The Band. They are still together as a band to this present day, and are still a big hit. Their popular song Who Are You is the theme song to CSI. Pink Floyd Pink Floyd, was also another English rock band formed in 1965, consisting of Roger Walters, Nick Mason, Richard White, and Syd Brarrett were the original members of the band. And in 1967, David Glimour joined the band as a guitarist and vocalist. Their first animal in the 70s was More. There next album released January 23, 1977 was called Animal partially based off of Animal Farm by George Orwell. Through the years the band broke up and came back together. Wright left the band in 1979

Mood Rings One of the biggest fashion trends, mood rings were worn constantly during the 70s. The rings were an exciting new piece of jewelry that changed color by the temperature of the persons body. Red was energetic, Purple was clarity, Blue was calm, Green was normal, Yellow Imaginative, white was bored, grey meant nervous, black was stressed, pink was fear, and brown was restless. These were all the possible colors in the mood ring, people especially teens and kids loved putting these on and seeing the color of their emotion. And they are still a big hit today!

Platform Shoes Tall, big, and stylish, platform shoes ruled the shoe industry for three decades. Becoming very popular in the 1970s platform shoes, female teens, young adults, and older women wore them. But in the disco age so did many men. There were many different styles to choose from, boots, espadrilles, oxfords, and sneakers. People could buy them causal or dressy and wear them to any event. These shoes you could say were the new black, although not very comfy. Most people wore them just for style and to fit in. Bellbottom Pants Originally from 19th century Navy uniforms, bellbottom pants became a fashion hit in the 1960s-80s. The hippie movement really hit things off with the new fashion pants. But that wasnt the only thing to make these pants popular, Sonny and Cher used to wear these pants on their popular TV show. These pants were so popular there was even a song written about them called Bell Bottom Blues by Derek and the Dominos. These pants were definitely a huge part of pop culture in the 70s.

Robert Redford Born August 18, 1936 Robert Redford has had an amazing career. Staring in his first movie War Hunt, which was released

in 1962, about the last days of the Korean War. But some of his more major films were Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, where Redford played the Sundance Kid. This film was one of his most famous, winning four Academy Awards, and six British Academy Film Awards, including one for Best Actor for Redford. He has also been in many other movies, including another big hit The Way We Were which came out in 1973. This movie won the Academy Award for Best Original Dramatic Score and the soundtrack was on the Billboard Hot 100 for 23 weeks. These are only two of the 66 films he has been in, directing 9 movies, and producing 28 and still more to come. Robert Redford has been a very successful actor, producer, and director. Al Pacino In 1972 the trilogy The Godfather was released, one of Al Pacinos biggest hits and what he was mainly known for. He played a mobster called Michael Corleone. But before this big hit, he played a heroine addict in The Panic in Needle Park which was released in 1971. His role in this film caught the eye of the director of The Godfather. He also co-starred in Scarecrow in 1973. He was born April 25, 1940 in East Harlem, New York. During the 70s Al Pacino was nominated for four Oscars for his role in Serpico, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, and And Justice for All. And in 1974 he was nominated for an Academy Award for his part in Serpico. Steve McQueen Born as Terrence Steven McQueen on March 24, 1930. Steve McQueen became an American actor. Being in the military during the Vietnam War, Steve McQueen was a big hit in the box-office, since he was so anti-hero. He also was a huge motorcycle racer at the time he made the auto racing drama Le Mans. And in 1974 he co-starred with a good friend

of his Paul Newman in The Towering Inferno. After that movie, he did not act until 1978 when An Enemy of the People came out into theaters for a short time. His last two films, although released in 1980, were Tom Horn and The Hunter. But he was on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1971 on a Husqvarna dirt bike.
