Coursework Guidelines (Module D)

Objective (10%) 1. Produce a clear, accurate and reasonable description of the problem and the situation. (State background context, needs.) 2. Clearly describe appropriate sub-problems and the links between them. 3. State current difficulties without the use of IT. 4. Identify and explain the requirements of the intended users. (State user requirements and scope of project.) 5. State target user, situation of use. 6. State purposes and benefits of the project. 7. Demonstrate thorough understanding of the key concepts involved in the problem. Analysis (10%) 1. Identify and evaluate one or more alternative ways of solving the problem. 2. Produce clear comparisons of different IT tools. 3. Justify the choice if IT tools using appropriate terminology. 4. Provide sound reasons for the choice. 5. Demonstrate a good understanding of the strengths and weakness of different ways of solving the problems. Design (15%) 1. Report about the information collection necessary for creating the solution. 2. Produce a comprehensive, concise, precise and logical description of the design of the solution. (Describe the overall plan or structure of the solution, with indication of its major parts.) 3. Describe the major parts involved in the solution and their relations with others when applicable. 4. Justify the design based on supporting theories or concepts learnt in the subject. 5. Highlight the special features of the design. Implementation (20%) 1. Demonstrate effective skills in the appropriate use of resources. 2. Demonstrate a good understanding of resources. 3. Demonstrate effective and comprehensive data/information collection, capture and input. (Provide suitable input and output formats or interfaces.) 4. Demonstrate effective and comprehensive data/information verification and validation. (Provide suitable handling of invalid data, inputs or exceptional situations.) 5. Demonstrate effective, efficient and comprehensive data/information processing. 6. Describe problems arising in implementation and how they are dealt with. 7. Create an appropriate output format that can easily be tested as a solution to the problem. (Demonstrate the application of relevant key knowledge, concepts in the module and skills in using the IT resources.)

Testing & Evaluation (10%) 1. Describe the test plan. 2. Record all test results according to the testing plan. 3. Evaluate the test results against the expected outcomes clearly and accurately. (Make judgement about the correctness or errors based on the testing.) 4. Demonstrate a comprehensive methodology in testing and evaluation. (Evaluate by comparison against other solutions observed.) Conclusion & Discussion (10%) 1. Draw a concise and accurate conclusion from the implementation process. 2. Reflect the students learning process effectively. (Mention some insights gained on learning about how to learn/solve problems.) 3. Suggest and explain improvements made as a consequence of testing. (State whether the requirements have been achieved, and if not, how improvements can be made.) 4. Demonstrate a clear and comprehensive understanding of the solution in further development. (Mention knowledge discovered which is relevant for other people on similar projects in the future.) Documentation (10%) 1. Produce a document using a good writing style and appropriate terminology. 2. Allow readers to know how the product is like and how to use it. 3. Demonstrate effective skills in the appropriate use of text and illustrations in detailed instructions in the document. 4. Allow readers to understand the method of creating the product. 5. Acknowledge all resources of assistance. 6. Organise and present the objectives and original thought effectively. Creativity (10%) 1. Demonstrate an imaginative use of IT tools in the solution. 2. Create an innovative design for the solution. 3. Produce templates, macros and so on for users (if any) to improve the effectiveness and efficiency. 4. Using creative ideas that lessen the complexity of the problem. 5. Point out with sound justification important criteria that others dont generally see. Process Behaviour (5%) 1. Demonstrate a positive attitude as regards personal initiative and responsibility in learning. 2. Able to keep a steady progress and work according to schedule. (Keep a log sheet.) 3. Demonstrate a good attitude as regards developing technological applications.
