The text for this class is The Art of Watching Films, 7th edition, by Joesph Boggs and Dennis Petrie, ISBN: 978-0-07-353507-4 (Please note that the ISBN number may be different). It is essential that you have a copy of the text for this class however you may purchase a used copy as you do not have to have the CD which accompanies the text.
Students may use either the 7th or 8th edition.

A student of this institution is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from a university-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

Special Materials: Lab Time:

There is a lab component to this course. However, students may fulfill the lab at a time they arrange and in a location of their choosing. Students will view a film per lesson for lab time. Students will select a film of thier choosing from a list in the text. The lists are fairly extensive and most films can be found at the public library, Blockbuster, NetFlix, Red Box and a variety of other locations.

* There are no on-campus meetings, labs or tests for this class. All work is completed on-line.

Focus:

The class focus will be preproduction, production and postproduction of film and the analysis and evaluation of film.
Requirements:

Assignments are organized under three categories: Quizzes and Forum Posts, Film Viewing Forms and a Power Point or a Movie Maker Presentation. Each category is worth 33.3 % of your final grade. The gradebook will update your grade after each assignment grade has been posted so that you will always know what your current grade is in this class.
Grading Criteria:
90-100% = A 80- 89% = B 70 -79% = C 60 - 69% = D 0 - 59 % = F

Additional Class Information:


Students will prepare a powerpoint on a film of their choosing for their final project instead of a final test. Late work is not accepted in this course however, bonus assignments are available to compensate for some missed assignments.
