A GUITARIST who grew up frustrated his favourite bands and musicians did not come to the area has gone out of his way to invite his idols to the town.

THE leader of an award-winning green project has been rewarded for all of her hard work.
Mother of three Jenny Davey, from Horncastle, worked on the Green Babies and Toddlers project - using 140,000 of British Gas money to transform buildings housing toddler groups. For her efforts, Jenny recently received the British Gas Award for Community Leadership at a presentation event at Leicester. The award recognised the lengths Jenny and others in the team went to involve

the community in the energy project organising various events and fundraisers. As part of the Leicester event, the Green Babies and Toddlers team had to present to a panel of judges in order to compete for a further 100,000 for another energy project for the town. They will find out if they have been shortlisted for the prize at the end of the month, with a further competition to select the finalist to come after that. Jenny is pictured with her framed certificate and the white hydrangea that was also part of her award.

Tech tool at work in woods

A NEW iPhone application has been designed to help people explore woodland near Wragby.
Trail maps, photo-galleries, opening times and even a tool to help you identify trees in the Chambers Farm Wood are included in the award winning ForestXplorer app from the Forestry Commission, now available free from iTunes. You can also download trail maps via GPS so that the app can still be used when out of phone signal range and search for events such as willow weaving workshops, childrens craft sessions and fungi forages. Pam Warhurst, Forestry Commission Chair, said: We are delighted to launch ForestXplorer as part of our celebrations surrounding the UNs International Year of Forests. This is an absolutely fantastic and innovative tool which can not only help you find out information about your local Forestry Commission Forest Park but also helps you learn more about the trees around you. The tree identifier is completely unique and what makes it even better is that its also so simple to use. Chambers Farm Wood is part of the Bardney Limewoods National Nature Reserve and home to dormice, rare bats and many butterfly species.

Guitar teacher Andy Gammon, 23, of Fulletby, has already managed to get world-class guitarists to teach inspiring master classes at The Bull Hotel in Horncastle. This included Guthrie Govan who has played with chart-topping artists like Dizzee Rascal. While most people were snowed in during November, many hardy guitar enthusiasts tackled treacherous conditions to make it to Guthries workshop. Master classes have also been taught by top jazz player Pat McCarthy and Jerry Donahue, who has supported artists such as George Harrison and Roy Orbison. Andy said: These are guitarists most people have never even heard of, but they are the best out there. There is not too much going on around here and I just thought why not contact my favourite guitarists to see if they would come to teach the workshops. Its very high risk financially organising them though, as you have to make sure enough people come along to make up for the cost of getting established artists here.

I am hoping to get Jamiroquais guitarist and drummer here at some point as well. Jazz guitarist John Etheridge is teaching a guitar master class and an evening concert at The Bull Hotel on Sunday, June 19. He was hailed as great by none other than Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Leading jazz artist Pat Methany even called him one the best guitarists in the world. While the class is on at 2pm7.30pm, music fans can also go along to see John in concert at 7.30pm. He will be joined by Tom Mark on double bass and Geoff Gammon (Andys dad) on drums. Andy said musicians of all calibres, including beginners, are welcome to attend the master class where John will talk about everything from chords and scales to technique and phrasing. He said: The students can range from seven to 70. Tickets, 10, are on sale at The Bull Hotel, Old Hat guitar shop in East Street and from Andy or Geoff on 01507 533760.
