No one said it was going to be easy, but the NV Fish & Games representatives at the BC Wildlife Federation convention last weekend got a glimpse of just how political it can get! Rick McGowan & Paul Komonoski attended the Vancouver convention to propose their resolution that would build a fund for the purpose of going to court to secure public access to public lakes throughout the province, such as what has been happening on Douglas Lake Ranch with Minny & Stoney Lakes. They prepared their arguments & produced their infomational material to lobby for their resolution at the convention. And they thought that their proposition made a lot of sense. But what they found was what they consider to be political interference by possibly as high-rankers as BC Ministers, and a somewhat fishy vote-count. They never imagined that theyd be lobbied themselves by politicians and cajoled to abandon their resolution. In the end, it was voted down by the BC Wildlife Federation membership in a tie (they had to get 51% of the vote). But Rick is steadfast in his belief about how wrong the whole affair is that rich landowners can lock out the public from public lakes on their property. If we move on this without the BCWF, its not going to look good for them. Especially since their mission is to represent all British Columbians whose aims are to protect, enhance and promote the wise use of the environment for the benefit of present and future generations., he said.
