Rather, there have been ongoing discussions with York Central Hospital Foundation (YCHF) about merging the two existing foundations to create a single, re-branded entity, but nothing has been decided, she said. We have had conversations with (the foundation) about their interest and the possibilities of integrating the foundations, she said. Its all very early days, so I cant really talk to you very much about what the specific plans are. But, I think, one, single dedicated foundation will be most effective for the hospital. The (foundation) has done a tremendous amount of terrific work, she said. Theyve raised money; theyve raised profile. Were very grateful for the work that theyve done. YorkRegion Article: Update: Foundation hit stalemate: chairperson

The Vaughan foundation was established in 2004 and pulled in more than $12 million (gross) for the hospital and related health care facilities through a number of high profile events, including the Vaughan Hospital Gala and Run for Vaughan, which takes place May 27 at Canadas Wonderland. Recently, it approved a funding request from York Central for $1.67 million toward planning and design costs of the new hospital. The remainder of the money held by the foundation, more than $8 million, is going into a trust to help cover the costs of building the hospital or purchasing equipment, Mr. Ciccolini said. We want to make sure the funds are also in keeping with any outstanding donor agreements, he added. The move to dissolve the foundation is the latest twist in the ongoing saga of the Vaughan hospital. Just a few months ago, foundation president and CEO Bob Baker stepped down abruptly. At the time, Mr. Ciccolini said the foundation had no intention of folding, noting it had 49 third-party fundraising events slated for this year. Mr. Bakers resignation came after a year of sparring over the role of the Vaughan Health Campus of Care (VHCC), an affiliate of the Vaughan Health Care Foundation. That battle culminated, last December, in the campus board of directors offering to negotiate its withdrawal from developing ancillary health care services on the city-owned hospital lands at Major Mackenzie Drive and Jane Street. The campus has yet to disclose if it has reached a deal with the city to wind down its operations and if it will have to return a $10 million grant it received from the federal government to carry out its work. The grant was the subject of controversy last spring. Conservative MP Julian Fantino came under fire for helping secure funds for an organization led by two of his key supporters, well-known developer Michael DeGasperis, who is chairperson of the campus of care, and Mr. Ciccolini, who is also a director at the campus of care. Mr. DeGasperis could not be reached for comment at press time.
