Kaitlyn Henaghan Lesson # 5 TITLE: ANTI-BULLYING CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVES: By the end of class, students will Synthesize their bullying

g facts into an organized poster. Work cooperatively with people they dont usually work with. Organize meaningful presentations for the class. MATERIALS: Posters (Butcher Paper) Markers Magazines ACTIVITIES: Opening: o I will show the students an example poster that I made about antibullying and explain the characteristics their poster must contain: one fact from each of their bully research that they did in the computer lab the day before; they should use markers for a majority of the information, but can supplement their marker information with words/pictures cut from the magazines provided; and they must organize their information in a clear and visually stimulating way (2 minutes). Body: o I will take two of each card from a deck, with the exception of the ace in which there will be three, and hand them out to each student. Based on the card they picked randomly, they have to pair out with the other student in the class that had the same card is them. These will be the groups that they make their anti-bullying posters in. (3 minutes) o Once in pairs, the students will construct their posters, talking quietly amongst each other. (20 minutes) Closing: o Each group will do a brief presentation on their posters, reading their bullying facts and describing any graphics they may have used (20 minutes).

ASSESSMENT: Students will be creating bullying posters that they are going to be showing their class as well as eventually hanging up around the school, so there information will be displayed in a clear way. I will check that their posters

include their two facts/statistics (three for the aces group), and will also make sure they are visually pleasing and comprehensible. Students will be paired with students they may not usually be accustomed to working with, so they will have to adjust to working with new people. I will be collecting their fact sheet from the research they did from the computer lab the day prior, so I will be able to check and make sure each person in the pair used one of their facts. I will also walk around the classroom and make sure that both partners are doing work and listening to each others ideas. The posters will be collected at the end of class and hung around the school to raise bully awareness. Students will present briefly to the class, and I will check to make sure they are sharing what I asked them to (facts, graphics explanation) and that both students are participating equally in the presentation. Students in the audience must be respectful during all presentations, demonstrating proper presentation etiquette.

STANDARDS MET: NCTE: o Students use spoken, written, and visual language to accomplish their own purposes (e.g., for learning, enjoyment, persuasion, and the exchange of information). o Students adjust their use of spoken, written, and visual language (e.g., conventions, style, vocabulary) to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and for different purposes. o Students conduct research on issues and interests by generating ideas and questions, and by posing problems. They gather, evaluate, and synthesize data from a variety of sources (e.g., print and non-print texts, artifacts, people) to communicate their discoveries in ways that suit their purpose and audience. ISBE: o CC.8.W.2.b Text Types and Purposes: Develop the topic with relevant, well-chosen facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples.
