Multi-Applications of Wi-Fi Technology

Video Conference using Wi-Fi Technology Browsing Internet using Wi-Fi Technology The two demonstrations listed above are based on Wi-Fi technology. The purpose of these demonstrations is to make light on the evolving Wi-Fi technology and its multi-applications in our day to day life. We show them how we could utilize Wi-Fi technology in our day to day life to meet some of our requirements such as connecting two PCs as in Local Area Networking and sharing our files/folders and some peripherals such as printers etc. Also a voice call, video chat, sharing network games etc. could be done using Wi-Fi within its transmission range.

Nanostation2
It is a radio equipment built on Wi-Fi technology that works on 2.4 GHz frequency band. Using two Nanostations, a radio link of about 15 km (max.) can be established forming a point-to-point wireless link (similar to peer-to-peer network in Local Area Networking) allowing users to share files, communicate (chat, voice call, video conference) with each other and perform various applications such as remote desktop connection and etc.

1. Video Conference using Wi-Fi Technology

In this demonstration, we show them how Wi-Fi technology could be utilized to chat, to do a voice call and even to do a video conference without the use of internet. For this the demonstration set up is as follows: 1

100 m wireless link

Wi-Fi

PC1: Hello PC2, how are u? PC2: Im fine. How r u PC2?

PC 1

PC 2

One Nanostation is connected to a laptop PC 1 and another aNanostation is connected to another laptop PC2. Each Nanostation is mounted in a pole facing each other so that they are in Line Of Sight. They are separated at a distance of about 100 m. There is no physical connection between two laptops PC 1 and PC 2. Even though the two laptops can communicate with eac other because of the with the help

2. Browsing Internet using Wi-Fi Technology

In this demonstration, we show them how Wi-Fi technology could be utilized to browse internet even in the place where we dont have internet connection. For this demonstration, the set up is as follows:

4.74 km radio link EESAT_NS2 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi DPWS_NS2

Network Cable

Internet

Network Switch

Network Cable PC 3

One Nanostation is installed in EESAT building and is connected to the switch which is connected to internet. Another Nanostation is installed in Discovery Park Weather Station (DPWS) which is connected to one PC. The place where DPWS is located doesnt have internet connection. But once the radio link between the two Nanostations is successfully established, the internet resource of EESAT could be accessed by the PC connected to the Nanostation at DPWS. Then browsing internet from that PC even at DPWS (the place where there is no internet connection at all) could be accomplished.
