Grijalva fights Stand Your Ground law

May 9, 2012 By ADI News Services http://arizonadailyindependent.com/2012/05/09/grijalva-fights-standyour-ground-law/#comment-606 Arizonas progressive congressman, Raul Grijalva and fellow progressives have halted their efforts to pass a Trayvon Amendment for now. According to Grijalvas staff, the congressman hoped to pressure states that have Stand Your Ground laws by docking roughly 20% of their money under the Byrne Justice Assistance Grants. Politico reports that Grijalvas communications director said I think thats a position they need to be put in and that they should have to explain to voters why are these laws (sic) more important than police funding. Byrne Justice Grants provides $370 million to fund law enforcement, drug treatment, jails and prosecutors offices programs. The progressive congressional leaders said that their amendment would be considered out of order under the House rules for debate. Stand Your Ground laws do not require a victim to retreat and allow residents to use force when attacked. The laws have entered the national spotlight due to the killing of Trayvon Martin, by George Zimmerman. Zimmermans lawyers are expected to use the Stand Your Ground law in his defense. Grijalva continues to under represent Arizona by exploiting difficult situations in other states to serve his agenda; creating class and racial division and disharmony, said his congressional challenger Gabriela Saucedo Mercer. Our citizens should be allowed to responsibly protect themselves. They shouldnt have to be concerned about being victimized by criminals and congressmen.

Arizonas stand your ground backed my play in Armory Park on April 10, 2006 when 15,000 of your Raza Buddies went bezerk when we burned a couple of Mexican flags and told them: Tucson is America. It will never be Mexico. Here in Pima County We Americans Will Make Our Stand! I was armed. And the Raza Punks knew I would blow their freaking heads off should they try to knock me to the ground, stomp on me like they did the cops on that day. Savvy? The Raza Revolution esta finido! Reply
