Weekly Newsletter for May 11, 2012

Spring Carnival
May 18, 2012
5:30-8:30 p.m. The PSS is currently collecting donations to fill baskets for the Spring Carnival. They are requesting Barbeque themed items from the 6th grade classes. Items such as sauces, grill pans, aprons, plates, spatulas, grill brushes would all be wonderful.

Most 6th graders have completed their Spring NWEA tests. We saw students make wonderful growths in all three subject areas.

Public Speaking Day


The graders of South Canton will be presenting their persuasive speeches and poems on May 25th from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. All families are invited to attend our presentation day to enjoy top notch public speaking and brilliant poetry. 6th

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS


Students are working in groups to develop a new product and a persuasive advertising campaign to along with their product. Students will present their product on Friday, May 18th.

SOCIAL STUDIES WITH MS. TEXTOR

This week in social studies the students became the

SCIENCE WITH MRS. LEE


Scientists will be wrapping up their Light Unit early next week. They spent some time exploring the visible light spectrum through different centers where students created laser beams, made and studied blind spots, and played with optical illusions. Their last unit of the year will begin next week and focus on Geographical Processes

We will be using the movie The Blind Side to support our last Moral Focus topic of the year as well as to support College Week. Look for a permission slip this later this month.

teacher as they researched about the ancient Inca culture and shared their findings with the class. It was fun to see what the students could create when they were the teachers!

Next week the students will get one final day to work
on their HUGE final project. Once the project has been completed and turned in, students will be moving on to our new unit in economics. Students will be learning all about the economic system, the process and importance of banks and the different economics throughout the world. HUGE FINAL PROJECT DUE: Tuesday May 15th ***NoteStudents have had two full weeks of in class time to work on this project. Projects will not be accepted late due to the amount of in class time they have had.***

Each teacher has selected a college randomly to support during this week. Students will decorate doors to match the college.

Talent Show
Auditions May 24, 2012 3:45-5:00 p.m.

Next week in math we will be completing our geometry unit. The Final unit of the year is Data and Probability. There will be a project for the Data and Probability unit, details to follow.
Rotation 3 will learn and use the Pythagorean Theorem. Rotation 2 will finish working with pi and circles and then learn and use the Pythagorean Theorem. Rotation 1 will find the area, perimeter and circumference of shapes.

Middle School Mixer

June 6th 2012

Students auditioning should put together a 2 minute presentation for the audition. Talents can range from singing, dancing, showing magic, telling jokes, dramatic readings, juggling, etc.
