CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION CTE Intro 1-Technology 2-Careers & Guidance 3Business 4-FACS (7): Career and

Technical Education Introduction (CTE Intro) allows students through activity-centered lessons to utilize technology, develop beginning skills, and explore careers. The course provides information regarding additional courses and training related to each students career field of interest. CTE Intro provides students with the direction, decision making, and planning needed to select their personal career paths. The program is a year-long course taught by a team of Career and Technical Education teachers and school counselors. School counselors are involved in teaching important concepts to students. Students are provided with instruction in career development. The student learning activities provide hands-on, real-world application. Concepts come from agriculture, health science, marketing, information technology, and economics, and are integrated into business, family and consumer sciences, and technology and engineering education, and career development curricula. Students are involved in Work-Based Learning activities such as career fairs, guest speakers, field studies, and job shadows. CTE Pathways identify and group courses within Career and Technical Education Areas of Study that offer students depth of knowledge and skill, linked with specific post-secondary programs culminating in degrees or certificates. Students use Pathways to investigate a wide range of career choices. Pathways make it easier for students to understand the relevance of required courses and select elective courses more wisely. CTE Intro AREAS OF STUDY - Through Awareness Activities, students are exposed to CTE Career Pathways in: Agricultural Education, Business Education, Family and Consumer Sciences Education, Health Science Education, Information Technology Education, Marketing Education, Skilled and Technical Sciences Education , Technology and Engineering Education

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION Keyboarding (7): In this beginning semester keyboarding course, the student will master touch operation on a typewriter or microcomputer keyboard. Correct fingering by touch operation and good techniques will receive primary emphasis; speed and accuracy will be given secondary emphasis. The student will learn to format simple reports, personal and business letters, and tables. The acquisition of business communication skills will be integrated throughout the course. Computer Technology (9): This is an introduction to computer application software that encompasses document processing, spreadsheets and presentations. An understanding of ethics and use of operating systems, information resources, and electronic mail is included. This class is required for High School graduation and can be taken at any time during the students high school experience.

Exploring Technology (8): Experience the 21st Century using OHMSs modern and well equipped technology lab. You will design, analyze, build and CRUSH wooden structures. Use the computer to explore the mysteries of this planet and the people that live here. Baffle your friends with binary codes and deepen your respect and appreciation for engineers by drafting and building you own inventions. Class Fee: $10.00 Foundations of Technology (9): Pre-requisite-Tech. 1 You will continue your experience of the 21st Century designing and building your own magnetic levitation car using our new MagLev track system. You will learn the physics of the amusement park by building and exploring a Roller-coaster or Ferris-wheel. Class Fee: $10.00 Introduction to Marketing (9): This course is designed to introduce middle school students to the world of business, selling and advertising. During the course we will cover such topics as sports marketing, what it is like to own your own business, the glamorous world of fashion merchandising, real estate, stock market, travel and tourism. We will be working with different clubs to promote their activities thru posters, advertisements and news articles. We will help sell items for school events as well as compete in a stock marketing game. We will also be working with digital media, animation, web design tools, etc. to learn how to promote business on the Internet and create different types of multimedia used in marketing. Cost - $10.00

TRADE, TECHNICAL AND INDUSTRIAL NOTE: In the Industrial Arts courses, students will be expected to have safety glasses and pass a safety test. Exploring Technology/Woods and Metals (8): This class is designed to introduce and give a sampling of the technologies of wood working and metals. This is a hands on course that will introduce students to the proper use of hand and power tools and develop plans and procedures for individual projects. This activity-oriented course prepares individuals for enrollment in Introduction to Manufacturing as a 9th grader. Work ethics and productivity are an integral part of the activities of this class. Materials fee is dependent on cost of materials. Introduction to Manufacturing Woods/1 (9): This course is a basic introduction to woodworking, where students will learn the proper use of hand and power tools as well as develop plans and procedures for individual projects. This activity-oriented course prepares individuals for enrollment in advanced and applied technology education programs. It will also assist them in making occupational and education choices. Work ethics and productivity are an integral part of the activities of this class. Materials fee is dependent on cost of materials. Introduction to Manufacturing Woods/2 (9): Pre-requisite-Woods 1 This course is an extension of Manufacturing Technology Woods/1. Students will learn a wide variety of advanced techniques, and make a nightstand or outdoor Adirondack chair. Fees are dependent on cost of materials

Introduction to Construction Technology (9): Instructor Approval Have you ever wondered how a few carpenters can frame a whole house in just a week or two? Have you ever wanted to learn how to build the walls, hang the sheetrock and install the doors to finish an unfinished basement, or just build a really nice doghouse? Well Introduction to Construction Technology is a good place to start. Learn the meaning of the words plumb, level and square it will rock your world! Fees will be determined by project. Introduction to Manufacturing Metals (9): This course consists of instructional activities involving the use of basic metal-working tools, machines and processes; designing and planning projects involving precision machine work, foundry welding and sheet metal fabrications. Fees: are dependent on cost of materials.

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE


Foods and Nutrition 1 (9): This course is designed to teach the principles of nutrition and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Attention will be given to selection and preparation of food and personal health and well being. Clothing 1 (9): This course teaches beginners to be successful in clothing construction and consumer skills. Choosing and using patterns, fabrics, and notions; use and care of todays sewing machines and sergers; and basic clothing construction methods are included. Students may choose from a variety of projects based on individual skill level and preference. Students will need to provide the fabrics and supplies for each project completed. Class Fee: $10.00 FACS (Family and Consumer Science) Exploration (8): This course provides students with essential life skills. The course allows students to develop skills in food and nutrition, childcare and safety, interior design and care of a home, clothing construction and style, consumerism, family relationships, personal responsibility, and job-related skills.
