The week so far..

Hi guys.finally herez the summary of the week so far.. day 0.1 (note: this day is not included in the 23 days schedule of the ILP) the hall was jam packed.everyone was excited. this is the induction day.It was arranged in the Indian Medical Association Auditorium.we were introduced to ILP programme.we were shown a few TCS videos(one was a 2 minute one and the second one was the keepers of the flame a 1 hour movie).you will really enjoy them.they will make you proud that you are part of the TCS family. there will be document verification on the same day and if you fail to submit any of the documents you will be given a time period of 3 days to submit them.the lunch was good and in the afternoon session we had a presentation about tcs values and other stuff.overall the day was good day 0.2 (this day is also not included in the 23day schedule) The day started off with the pre-test.guys if you want to write the exam well, plz do read the MIT material that the TCS ppl sent us.the marks obtained in the pre-test will be taken as the criteria for making batches. then the day continued with HDFC bank account opening.By afternoon the batches were made and we were informed that the accommodation would be reshuffled depending on the batch. day 1, day 2, day 3 , day 4 , day 5, day 6 it started off well with the orientation session.the biggest difference between the 2 month ILP and the 23 days ILP is that emphasis on self-study.previously they used to teach you in the training sessions but now you need to study them on your own. totally you have five evaluations and you need to score an aggregate of 55 percent. we started with the module called programming concepts.for this u need to do programming in a language called scheme.this language is easy to learn as well as easy to work on.you wont be using this language anywhere other than during ur ILP period.u just use this because this helps the user to lay more emphasis on logic building rather than learning the language. u need to learn everything by urself and you need to complete the set of assignments before the evaluations and you will find yourself working late nights for this.we used to stay in the training center till 1030(thats the time till which the labs are oper here.) .but in other ILP centers the labs will be open 24 hrs.be prepared for the 5 hr sleep we just completed our first evaluation this friday and cannot comment on that until i get my results. for the second module we need to work in groups on a case studyand it starts from monday.

food is the biggest problem over here as ppl here have tiffins for their dinner and we are forced to survive on that.theres no other go. saturdays and sundays are off but you will be loaded with some work or the other and you will be spending your time in labs even on those days.. signing off for now.will be bak with more updates Ritz.

1 Day to go:A Random walk down the streets of coimbatore

im finally here at coimbatore..!!! the journey was a dampener.rainy all the way and rainy throughout the day.but still it was special in its own way:) raki, lathi and me reached this place at 8 am.the train was late by almost two and half hour after much tussle we were able to find our place of accomodation. it was worse(even horrible can be used) from outside and ok inside.this place is still under construction. there was an option to choose either a two or a 4 bedded room.we chose a 2 bedded one.the rooms were decent but not extravagant as expected.(for ppl who knew about the vit hostels, they were just a replica of H block rooms except for the attached bathrooms).the watchmen alloted us our rooms. the batches were divided prior to our arrival.I was put into C-20 batch which had 30 trainees. we were briefed about the ILP by the in-charge of this place. the problem with this place is i didnt find a good restaurant nearby may be my search wasnt accurate enough to strike the bulls eye. after making ourselves comfortable we took our time out to explore this place.the vagary of this place is that it was drizzling the whole day. we rambled across the streets of gandhipuram, ramnagar and cross roads.all these streets were crammed by people like the stock brokers trying to make their presence on the trading floor.

shoppers paradise.this is what i would call this place for the variety and affordability that coimbatore offers.if you are a shopoholic you would definitely love this place.we did a bit of shopping for the shoes, ties and other trivial stuff.we went to dine at some place called dragons restaurant(highly recommended by Raghu).it was ok but doesnt suit our daily menu.need to look for something else. rest was fine. looking forward for a new fraternity. Ritz.

I am kidding rt!!! i know.i know. i am no moron:) few days back (almost 15-20 days)I was browsing through the various communities on the net and found many links, resources and references pertaining to the pre ILP preparation stuff.they were random links, rather confusing and substantially absurd. here are the links that the TCS ppl actually suggest you to have a look at before you attend the ILP programme. RESOURCES

http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Electrical-Engineering-and-Computer-Science/6001Spring-2005/LectureNotes/index.htm
YOU DONT NEED TO STUDY THE WHOLE MATERIAL.HERE IS THE LIST OF COURSES THAT YOU NEED TO GO THROUGH.YOU WILL BE ABLE TO FIND ALL THE COURSES IN THE ABOVE LINK

Lecture# Topics L1 Introduction to Computation L2 Scheme Basics L3 Procedures, Processes and Recursion L4 Orders of Growth and Kind of Procedures L5 Data Abstractions L7 Good Programming Practices L16 Object Oriented Programming I L17 Object Oriented Programming II L18 Object Oriented Programming III
I JUST WENT THROUGH THE LECTURES L1 AND L2.

SUMMARY I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT IT IS NO ROCKET SCIENCE.THE FIRST LECTURE GIVES US IDEA ABOUT HOW THE ACTUAL COMPUTATION IS DONE IN A COMPUTER.IT POINTS OUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DECLARATIVE KNOWLEDGE AND IMPERATIVE KNOWLEDGE. THE SECOND LECTURE DEMYSTIFIES THE ACTUAL COMPUTATIONAL PROCESS.IT SHOWS US HOW THE ACTUAL COMPUTATIONAL PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES ARE DONE USING A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE.HERE THE PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE USED IS SCHEME.IT IS A LANGUAGE DEVELOPED BY THE RESEARCH STUDENTS AT MIT.IT IS A BIT SIMILAR TO C EXCEPT FOR THE SEMANTICS AND SYNTAX.

A day at Notarys dugout

July 25, 2008 6:00 am Posted in things to do b4 ILP Tagged affidavit, agreement, bond paper, criminal records, date of birth, dob, dugout, format, notary, signature, tcs, training Comments (1)

I am ready with the three affidavits(two in general and the you need the third one if you need to prove the authenticity of your date of birth) that you need to carry before joining TCS. It hardly took me an hour to complete the things. carry the softcopy of all the three documents and the bond papers to speed up the things. FILLING THE TRAINING AGREEMENT There are 4 pages in the training agreement.get the first page printed on the 100 rs bond paper and simply staple the remaining three pages to the first page.

put your signature on the bottom left side of all the 4 pages and the signature of your surety giver on the bottom right side of all the 4 pages. there were rumors that the format of the training agreement available on the net is different from the actual one.but i found them to be the same.you dont need to worry on tht. There is nothing much to comment about the criminal records affidavit and the DOB affidavit.

6 Days to go:shopoholics spree

July 24, 2008 6:39 pm Posted in The countdown Tagged belt, burger, economics, formal wear, formula, light colours, mach 3, mc donald, ritz fctor, shoes, shopping, tcs, tie Leave a Comment

yupfinally im almost 95 percent done with my shopping part probably the first one which was completely done for formal weari never brought something called formal for myself (except the pair that i brought for the placements season which was a disaster with over sized cuffs, broad pleats and i looked ragged in tht). so,this time around like a newbie punter into the big leauge i completely banked on my coach(dats my dad) for the formal stuff.dad advised me to avoid the readymade stuff and go for the tailor made thing. i avoided the dark colors and settled with the lighter ones. finally the fabregas was brought and the tailor was sought. i was very much confused with the tie stuff.they were damn costly and the price was almost equal to the that of a trouserridiculous isnt it..?? more over i wasnt able to apply RITZ fcTOR..so resisted from buying tht whats this RITZ fcTOR? RITZ fcTOR is a variable coefficient which varies from 1 to 5. I use it in my day to day life for shopping various objects whether may it be a mach 3 razor or a Mc donald burger.. its based on the formula price of the cheapest brand * RITZ fcTOR = price of the premium brand you are weighing to buy for ex: suppose you want to buy a pair of sneakers.you get the cheapest one at around 350-400 rs in POWER(BATA).Initially i dont look at the price of the premium brand. now i calculate my RITZ fcTOR.i look at the durability, comfort /flexibility,place where i play /social surroundings and warranty of the premium brand over the cheapest brand and rate each of the above factor on a scale of 0 to 1.finally i add up the ratings of each factor and make up the RITZ fcTOR.

Now say that the RITZ fcTOR is 2.5 for this example applyin the formula 400 * 2.5=1000.so the maximum amount that i spend on the a sneakers is 10001200.if i dont get some thing in price band,i will either go with the cheaper product or wait for the prices to come down. the factors and the weightage for each factor that i consider in calculating the RITZ fcTOR may vary depending on the product under consideration and the calculation is spontaneous and based on the individual instincts. oh noenough of economics for the day so the bottom line is i havent completed my shoppping yetyet to shop for shoes,belts,ties..nd many more trivial stuff.now the five percent seems like fifty:D guys do u think the RITZ fcTOR works.?? do comment on tht:) Ritz.
