Safety Management System on Board Vessels MANUAL FOR EMERGENCIES


1. Document Number

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE MANUAL This manual aims to set the procedures to handle emergency situations on board vessels which may threaten the passengers and crews life and the vessel itself and to handle emergency situations which may pollute the environment.

2. DEFINITION Emergency is a state or event other than normal/routine which may threaten the human safety, property and the environment. 3. IMPLEMENTATION This manual is effective when there are emergencies which include: 3.1. Vessel accidents (collision, aground, fire or sinking) 3.2. Crew and passanger accidents (man overboard, life-threatening accidents) 3.3. Marine pollutions (oil discharge) 4. EMERGENCY CONTROL 4.1. In the event that accidents/emergencies occur, the crew must report to the Master of the vessel as soon as possible. 4.2. In handling emergencies, the first measure/priority shall be taken for the safety of both passengers and crew on board vessels. 4.3. The Master must respond to reports of accidents/emergencies by taking further actions to anticipate the emergency / accident based on the appropriate emergency procedures of the respective ships and report to the owner or the company using the media available to obtain any support / office assistance. ATTITUDES AND TRAINING 4.4. All personnel involved in handling emergencies should have the attitude to prioritize their role in the handling of emergency situations on routine tasks. 4.5. Masters are routinely required to plan and conduct training to handle emergencies that may occur, followed by all the crew in accordance with the Emergency Training Procedures number : SMS.I.1.Em.VP.10.Gen
