Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.

Hyde
Summary
The novel begins with "Mr. Utterson the lawyer" going for a walk with his friend and relative Mr. Enfield. They walk past a door, which somehow prompts Mr. Enfield to tell a sad story: a brute of a man knocked down a little girl, everyone yelled at the rude man, the man offered to pay a lot of money and disappeared through the door only to return with a large check drawn from Dr. Jekylls bank account. The nasty man? None other than Mr. Hyde.

Mr. Utterson, it turns out, is Dr. Jekylls lawyer, and we find out that in the event of Dr. Jekylls death or disappearance, his entire estate is to be turned over to Mr. Hyde. Mr. Utterson, who thinks highly of Dr. Jekyll, is extremely suspicious of this whole arrangement. He resolves to get to the bottom of this mystery. He hunts down Mr. Hyde and is suitably impressed with the evil just oozing out of Hydes pores. He then asks Dr. Jekyll about these odd arrangements. Dr. Jekyll refuses to comment, and there the matter rests until "nearly a year later."

Cut to "nearly a year later." A prominent politician is brutally beaten to death. The murder is conveniently witnessed by a maid, who points to evil-oozing Mr. Hyde as the culprit. Everyone tries to hunt down this evil man, but with no success. Meanwhile, Dr. Jekyll is in great health and spirits; he entertains his friends (among them one Dr. Lanyon), gives dinner parties, and attends to his religious duties. Two months later, both Dr. Lanyon and Dr. Jekyll fall terribly ill, and claim to have irrevocably quarreled with each other. Dr. Lanyon dies, leaving mysterious documents in Mr. Uttersons possession, to be opened only if Dr. Jekyll dies or disappears. Dr. Jekyll remains in seclusion, despite frequent visits from Mr. Utterson.

Finally, one evening, Dr. Jekylls butler visits Mr. Utterson at home. Hes worried about his master and is convinced of foul play. The butler persuades Mr. Utterson to return to Dr. Jekylls house, where they break into Dr. Jekylls laboratory. They find Mr. Hyde dead on the floor, with Dr. Jekyll nowhere to be found.

Mr. Utterson finds several documents left to him, and goes back home to read both Mr. Lanyons narrative and Dr. Jekylls narrative, which, it turns out, are two parts of the same story. Since were at the end of the story, author Robert Louis Stevenson figured it was about time to tell us what happened at the beginning. So we discover (through the documents left by the dead men) the following: by means of a potion, Dr. Jekyll was able to transform into Mr. Hyde and give in to a world of pleasure and self-serving crime. In his narrative, Dr. Jekyll writes that Mr. Hyde became ever more powerful and ever harder to control in essence, the dominant personality.

CHARACTERISTIC
MAIN CHARACTER
Mr. Gabriel John Utterson: Utterson is a lawyer but also a personal friend to nearly all of the other characters, and helps solve the case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The story is told from his perspective and the reader soon realizes that hes a good-natured man. Utterson is described as shy, with a rugged countenance.

OTHER CHARACTER
Dr. Henry Jekyll/ Mr. Edward Hyde: This is the elderly gentleman at the center of the story who struggles with the dual nature of his personality. Although very kind and friendly to his friends, Dr. Jekyll has a dark side, which he chooses to express in the person of Mr. Hyde. Although he valiantly tries to keep Mr. Hyde away, eventually the dark side of his personality wins out, threatening his life. Mr. Richard Enfield: Enfield is the best friend of Utterson. He goes on weekly Sunday afternoon walks through the town with him. One Sunday, Enfield tells Utterson about Mr. Hyde and the strange house in which he lives. Dr. Hastie Lanyon: Lanyon is an elderly doctor who helps Utterson to solve the case when he describes the letter given to him by Jekyll. Lanyon is the one who witnesses Jekylls transformation into Hyde and he writes a letter to Utterson, before dying, to explain Jekyll's transformation. Poole: Poole is Dr. Jekyll's butler who, upon noticing the reclusiveness and changes of his master, goes to Mr. Utterson with the fear that his master has been murdered and his murderer, Mr. Hyde, is residing in the chambers. Poole serves Jekyll faithfully, and attempts to do a good job and be loyal to his master. Yet events finally drive him into joining forces with Utterson to discover the truth. Sir Danvers Carew: A kind, white haired, old man and important Member of Parliament. He was killed in the streets of London, on the night of October 18 (sometime between 11pm and 2am by the testimony of the maid), by Mr. Hyde in a murderous rage. He was 70 years old. He was however carrying on his person, at the time of his death, a letter addressed to Gabriel Utterson. As a result the police subsequently interviewed Utterson with regard to the murder. Although there is no clear reason for his murder, Carew openly greets Hyde immediately prior to the killing. Coupled with this, both characters have a direct link to Utterson.

FAVORITES CHARACTER
My favorites character came from the most I admire, which is not other than Mr. Utterson. I admire him because firstly, he is a peacemaker. He tried to make Dr. Jekyll and Dr. Lanyon eye to eye with each other. Secondly, Mr. Utterson was helpful and often offered assistance to Dr. Jekyll. For example, he was quite sure that Hyde was blackmailing Dr. Jekyll. Therefore, he thought of exposing Hydes own secrets, thus stopping the blackmailing. Besides, Mr. Utterson was also a concerned friend who cared for Dr. Jekylls well-being. He feared for Dr. Jekylls life, thinking that Hyde would kill the doctor because of the will. Finally, Mr. Utterson was also rational, a man of sense and authority. Hence, it is no wondered that many for example Poole, the police and Dr. Lanyon turned to him for help, advice and cooperation.

Uninteresting scene in the novel, when begin at chapter 2, Mr. Utterson out the Dr. Jekylls will. So, he thinks about the case Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll that Dr. Jekyll could put Mr. Hyde name to his will, and then Mr. Utterson could call other of his friend, Dr. Lanyon for thinking what Dr. Jekyll do. CONCLUSION
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde write by Robert Louis Steven. This novel was classic novel and been renewable. All story happen at London city at England, which is mirrored his writer hometown. The story about t is about a London lawyer named Gabriel John Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and the misanthropic Edward Hyde. Novel play theme about courage, responsibility, good against evil, honest and honour. All cause of this story is happen when Dr. Jekyll finally succeeds in producing the drug which can separate the good and the evil sides of his nature. On the night that he decides to test the experimental drug, he drinks it and is transformed into Mr. Hyde. This gives him a chance to be irresponsible and thus experience secret, wicked pleasures without losing the respect that is as important to him as Dr. Jekyll. However, this only lands Dr. Jekyll into more trouble. As Mr. Hyde, he eventually murders Sir Danvers Carew. In the end, Dr. Jekylls evil side becomes more powerful and takes over his life. He begins to transform into Mr. Hyde even without taking the drug. Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde now is forced to hide from all and lives in fear of punishment for his crime. In the end, Dr. Jekyll commits suicide and dies as Mr. Hyde. If Dr. Jekyll did not produce the drug, he would probably have lived and died as respected doctor, instead of wanted criminal.
