In the midst of a very busy time here in City Hall, Im excited to share with you my latest newsletter.

Recent headlines have been full of talk about the Warriors coming to San Francisco and the 49ers leaving discussions and negotiations which I have been deeply involved in. In terms of legislation, months of work has paid off as I recently introduced a number of new pieces of legislation, including a small business jobs bill, as well as legislation to improve and extend our Citys film rebate program, both of which will be voted on at the Board in the upcoming months. My condo conversion legislation that I previously mentioned is also in its final stages of drafting and should be introduced within weeks. District 2 in particular has been busy with a number of big projects, including the Presidio Parkway/Doyle Drive replacement, as well as discussions with CPMC over their plans to build a new hospital on Cathedral Hill. The ultimate vote on CPMC should happen this summer. Our district will continue to remain active through the summer as we ramp up for the Americas Cup races in August, and get ready for Fleet Week once again in early October. My office will continue to be very active and engaged in our neighborhoods throughout the summer if you have any questions please feel free to reach out to my office anytime - contact information for my office is directly below.

Office of Supervisor Mark Farrell

49ers As a long-time 49ers season ticket holder and die-hard fan, for the last 12 months I have been working with Mayor Ed Lee and team owner Jed York to see if there was any possibility to keep the 49ers in San Francisco. Unfortunately that ship had sailed long before I took office, so my goals has been to protect the City financially, and to preserve a partnership between the City and the team, as they prepare to move to their new stadium in Santa Clara. After months of intense negotiations, I introduced a lease amendment for the 49ers at Candlestick outlining a mutually beneficial agreement with the San Francisco 49ers and the City. Currently, the 49ers contract to play at Candlestick Park extends through the 2014 season until early 2015. In light of the groundbreaking on the stadium in Santa Clara and their anticipated construction timetable, the lease agreement gives the 49ers an option to leave Candlestick a year early. In consideration for the option to leave one year early, the City gains the following: $1 million for the Recreation and Park Budget (whether or not the option is exercised) If the option is exercised, the Recreation and Park Department will be made whole on any anticipated revenues that they would have received during the 2015 season Current Candlestick employees will be offered jobs at the new stadium in Santa Clara Most importantly, San Francisco will partner as the lead city with the 49ers to bring a Super Bowl to San Francisco and the new stadium as early as 2016, which will bring hundreds of millions of dollars of economic activity to our City.

More than anything I do not want to see the San Francisco 49ers leave our city, but I wholeheartedly believe this new agreement protects San Francisco and maintains a solid relationship with the team and will bring an incredible amount of economic activity to San Francisco as the host city for the next Bay Area Super Bowl. Small Business Jobs Bill One of the first things I did when I got to City Hall was meet with our Citys economist to figure out how we can put people back to work. As we saw last year, the City gave big companies, such as Twitter, incentives to stay in San Francisco through payroll tax exemptions. I wholeheartedly supported those efforts as they were necessary for economic growth and for job stimulation, but I knew we needed to do more. After working with small business owners across many neighborhoods in San Francisco and our economist, I introduced a bill on April 17th to create small business jobs in San Francisco by permitting a limited payroll tax incentive for small businesses. The exemption will allow small businesses with a payroll under $500,000 to expand their payroll by $250,000 absent San Francisco's 1.5% payroll tax. I'm thrilled that six of my colleagues have signed on including Supervisors David Campos, Carmen Chu, Malia Cohen, Sean Elsbernd, Eric Mar and Scott Wiener as co-sponsors. I've always said that small businesses are the heart and soul of our neighborhoods in San Francisco. It is estimated that this legislation will create hundreds of jobs by removing barriers to small business expansion. This legislation will take approximately two to three months to get through the legislative process before it becomes law. We will keep you posted on its progress. Film Rebate Program On April 24, 2012, I introduced legislation to extend the Scene in San Francisco film rebate program building on my legislation to draw more film production to San Francisco. A robust local film industry not only brings jobs to our economy, but also creates more opportunities to showcase our incredible city to the big screen. The legislation will add $2

million to the program and extend it through June 30, 2014. Last fall, my office bolstered the rebate program by adding documentaries and unscripted reality television programming and lowering permit fees for low budget films. The program has been incredibly successful bringing in recent films such as Milk and La Mission, as well as television series such as Trauma. According to Trish Hofmann, the Executive Producer of the film Hemingway & Gellhorn, "The rebate makes San Francisco a real draw for filming. It's particularly helpful for mid-size budgets where every dollar counts. I look forward to working with the Executive Director of our Film Commission on other projects as well to further boost filming and job creation in San Francisco. Noticing Legislation Becomes Law Im happy to announce that my legislation to increase noticing requirements to neighbors on City projects was signed into law on March 13, 2012. The law establishes minimum public notice requirements for certain projects funded directly by the City or administered by the City through the use of federal, state or other funding sources. It also requires the Mayors Office of Housing to post on its official website an updated list of all proposed projects and provide email notice to those who sign up about projects that apply for funding in response to a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA), when a department decides to fund a pre-development study, or when a department takes any step towards potentially funding or administering a proposed project. This legislation will bring the neighborhoods into the conversation and get input on proposed projects at the early stage of the game - before City funds are committed on projects, such as the two transitional aged youth projects in District 2 that lacked necessary outreach and collaboration. November 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhoods Parks Bond Quality of life for our neighborhoods has always been and will continue to be a main focus for my office. I decided to support the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond because our families and residents across San Francisco need safe and adequate open space close to where we all live. The 2012 Parks Bond will focus on improving existing facilities that are well used and worn out and in dire need of improvements. Moscone East Playground and Mountain Lake Park in District 2 have already passed the environmental clearance to be specifically named in the bond for playground renovations, and I also anticipate Laurel Heights playground will receive renovation funding for this bond, as will Alta Plaza Park to correct the irrigation problems, which have plagued the park for years. The bond will direct funds for: a) playground safety to improve, renovate, replace playgrounds that are dilapidated and failing; b) citywide parks to enhance natural features of Golden Gate Park, John McLaren Park, and Lake Merced; c) community opportunity fund to continue to provide funds for small communitynominated projects as well as to leverage matching funds for larger projects; d) water conservation to replace old and outdated irrigation equipment with new permeable features and water efficient systems; e) trail restoration to enhance existing trails and their surrounding landscape; and f) forestry to address hazardous trees to protect life and property, and replant trees for a safer and healthier urban forest. The San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department has done a great job implementing the projects under the 2008 Parks Bonds, and I hope you will join me in supporting this bond on the November 2012 ballot. Americas Cup As the deal to host the Americas Cup evolved and plans for the race and redevelopment of some of our piers were dramatically changed, some began to wonder whether the race was actually going to happen. Despite a scaled-back agreement that looks very different than once envisioned, on March 27th, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the final

agreement to host the Americas Cup sailing race, and we can now officially look forward to one of the most spectacular sporting events in history. The races will be incredible for our City and for District 2 and they will bring San Francisco to the world. For the first time since 1992, the Americas Cup races will be broadcast on network television by NBC. In 2012 (just a few months away), the Americas Cup World Series races will take place in the San Francisco Bay from August 21-26 and then again from October 4-7 which also coincides with Fleet Week. We are working hard behind the scenes to make sure all the issues that pertain to crowds are addressed in advance. Racing for the Louis Vuitton Cup (the Americas Cup Challenger Series) will take place in July and August of 2013. The winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup will challenge defending champion ORACLE Racing Team commencing on Saturday, September 7-22, 2013. My office continues to focus on how the races are going to affect District 2 and will provide updates as we get closer to event. Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) Charter Amendment On March 6, 2012, I introduced a charter amendment with five of my colleagues for the November election to repeal ranked-choice voting for citywide elections in San Francisco. The charter amendment will return San Franciscos election system to the more democratic run-off process for citywide offices including Mayor, District Attorney, Sheriff, City Attorney, Treasurer, Assessor-Recorder and Public Defender. Although I would have preferred to eliminate ranked-choice voting for all San Francisco elections - which includes Supervisorial elections my original version did not have the necessary support to make it to the ballot. However, I am pleased that six members of the Board of Supervisors have come together to eliminate RCV for city-wide elections. Over the next several months, I will be working with my colleagues to place this charter amendment on the November ballot. It will take a vote of the people to repeal ranked-choice voting for city-wide offices and to reinstate a top-two run-off. Stay tunes. Hearing on the Citys Real Estate Management Policies Earlier this year, I asked our Budget & Legislative Analysts Office to review the Citys general property management policies. The report described the Citys management of its real estate as dysfunctional, incomplete and inaccurate, with numerous errors and misclassifications. The report also revealed that San Francisco has failed to do anything with 13 of 15 properties that were listed as surplus property in 2004. There are a total of 597 properties overseen by city departments, including 42 buildings previously identified as surplus and at least another 26 that could be considered surplus. The results of the reports are concerning at best. Thus I called for a hearing to get to the bottom of this. To have dozens of potential properties lying around vacant is irresponsible and we need to fix the problem. I look forward to a hearing at the Government Audit & Oversight Committee in late June.

DISTRICT 2 UPDATE
Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary The Golden Gate Bridge is turning 75 this year, and people from all over the world are going to descend on San Francisco, and District 2 in particular, to celebrate the bridges historic birthday. To mark the Bridges anniversary, organizers are putting the finishing touches on the official Golden Gate Bridge Festival, which is going to take place over Memorial Day weekend specifically, Sunday, May 27th.

Starting at 11:00am and concluding with a grand finale and fireworks show at 9:30 pm., the festival will be centered at Crissy Field and along the Marina Green, so Marina residents should get prepared for a busy weekend! The festival itself is going to include a number of elements, including music and dance performances, art installations, historical exhibits, classic car and boat displays, and a ton of other family-friendly activities which I was excited to hear about. This entire festival is free, and from what I have heard in my meetings with the organizers, this is one birthday party that you dont want to miss! Yet, all of us who live in District 2 also appreciate the logistical challenges that come when a popular public event subsumes the Marina and the surrounding area. While festival activities will be staged over four miles along the waterfront to help disperse crowds, we can fully expect that our neighborhoods, and in particular the Marina, will be highly impacted by traffic and people during the day-long event, and especially in the hours leading up to the fireworks show at 9:30 pm. Thats why over the last year, I have met with many constituents and worked closely with the organizations putting on the event, including the National Park Service, Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and the Presidio Trust, along with leaders in City Hall including the Mayor and various department heads, to make sure neighborhood considerations within District 2 have been taken into account in the festival planning. As a result of ongoing, close collaboration between local, state and federal authorities and festival organizers, we have a strong plan in place for the festival, that will ensure a safe, accessible and enjoyable experience for all of us in District 2, and a waterfront celebration worthy of the Golden Gate Bridge itself. So as a heads up before the event, here are a few items to keep in mind as you, your family and friends make your plans for Memorial Day weekend and Sunday, May 27: Expect significant traffic congestion and delays throughout the City over the weekend, and all day on Sunday. If you can avoid it, please dont drive on May 27th! As much as possible, please walk, bike, or use public transit to get to the Golden Gate Bridge Festival. Free bike parking will be offered at several locations. No public parking will be available on Sunday in the Presidio, Crissy Field, or Marina Green. ADA parking will remain open on a first-come, first-served basis. Note that unlike with 50th Anniversary celebration in 1987, there will be no Bridge Walk as part of the anniversary. Traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge will be interrupted only during the fireworks show on Sunday night, while the east and west sidewalks will close to pedestrians and bicyclists at 7:00 pm. The Festival is a No Alcohol event. Transit planning is ongoing. As public transit options, schedules and routes are finalized, details will be available at http://www.goldengate.org/ggb75transit Finally, it is important to emphasize that the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge will live on long after May 27th. As much as locals tend not to spend time in areas heavily trafficked by tourists, the Golden Gate Bridge has become an incredible destination it boasts new and renovated visitor facilities, new exhibits and guided tours, improved national park trails and overlooks on both sides of the span. Check out www.goldengatebridge75.org for more information on the complete 75th Anniversary celebration, including many volunteer opportunities. Were all lucky to live in San Francisco for so many reasons, and just like the 50th Anniversary celebration 25 years ago, this 75th Anniversary celebration is going to be one of those uniquely San Francisco events you wont want to miss. So if you dont have plans to head out of town on Memorial Day weekend, I hope you will join me and my entire family down on Crissy Field and the Marina Green on May 27th to celebrate the Golden Gate Bridge. Have a blast!

CPMC Moves Forward On April 10, Mayor Lee introduced a proposed development agreement with California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) that would allow CPMC to build two new state-of-the art, seismically safe hospitals at Cathedral Hill and St. Lukes in the Mission. The agreement includes commitments on health benefits for the poor (charity care), as well as money for affordable housing, neighborhood improvements, workforce development and transit issues. The introduction of the development agreement and associated legislation made way for the Planning Commission to hold an initial hearing on April 5th and then an approval hearing and environmental impact report certification hearing to certify the Final EIR. The EIR was approved 5-1 by the Commissioners on April 26th. We do expect an appeal of the EIR and the Conditional Use permits at the Board of Supervisors in the next month or two. Throughout this process, I have taken an active part in discussions with both the Mayors Office and CPMC Executives to ensure that any agreement represents the best possible outcome for San Francisco and especially those in the neighborhoods where hospital construction will occur. Going forward, I will remain active and support the plan that provides the best long-term solution for the City and District 2. Redistricting Task Force Update Redistricting is now complete and the boundaries of District 2 have been redrawn. The Redistricting Task Force was given the assignment of redrawing the boundaries of all 11 districts so they are as equal in population as possible. I felt strongly and advocated to keep the neighborhoods I represent, and have worked together collaboratively with over the last 15 months, in District 2 all the way from Russian Hill to Sea Cliff. The boundaries have not changed significantly thanks to all of you. Thank you to everyone who testified at the Redistricting Task Force meetings to keep our neighborhoods whole and part of our larger community in District 2. I look forward to representing and working hard for your neighborhoods as your Supervisor in the coming years. Doyle Drive Presidio Parkway

In March I took a tour of the Doyle Drive project to see the constructions progress. The Presidio Parkway project will make a tremendous difference in San Francisco and especially for residents of District 2. Over the next few months, the old Doyle Drive will be removed and traffic will be redirected to a new, safer

roadway while the Presidio Parkway tunnels are completed. Not only will the project provide a safer roadway and improve traffic issues but it will provide better views of the bay from the Presidio. For even more information on how this project will benefit District 2, please watch this video, made with the help of Butch Haze, Maggie Alexandridis and Molly Graham. http://www.teedhaze.com/tv/GoldenGateBridgeDoyleDrive Aside from the helicopter noise early in the morning, I was impressed with how seamless the closure of Doyle Dr was over the weekend of April 27th. Monday April 30, 2012 at 4:30am my family and I were on a MUNI bus which made the inaugural trip across the new Presidio Parkway. The entire Presidio Parkway team has done an amazing job keeping people informed of the changes and opening the new bypass at the end of a long weekend of heavy construction to beat the 5am deadline! Check out a few videos of the inaugural trip here: http://www.facebook.com/markfarrellsf Honoring Great Educators in the Catholic Education System at the Board May 1, 2012 San Francisco is known not only for its high performing urban public school system but also for its strong Catholic education system. At the meeting of the Board of Supervisors on May 1st, I honored three educators from Schools of the Sacred Heart who are moving on to new endeavors. Gordon Sharafinski built Stuart Hall High School from the ground up and created an atmosphere for young men and their families in pursuit of a quality Catholic education. He led Stuart Hall until 2009, when the Board of Trustees asked him to lead all four schools at Schools of the Sacred Heart as Director of Schools. His leadership will be greatly missed. Andrea Shurley has been the Head of Convent of the Sacred Heart High School since 2008. Prior to that, she served as the Academic Dean and an English Teacher at Stuart Hall High School from 2001 to 2008. Andrea will be leaving the Bay Area at the end of the school year with her husband and son to move closer to family. We thank her for her contributions to the Catholic education system in San Francisco. Sister Anne Wachter began working at Schools of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco since 1997. For the last 12 years, she has been Head of Convent of the Sacred Heart Elementary. Her positive, engaging style, passion and dedication to children and her ability to forge relationships with faculty, staff and parents make her a natural leader. We are sorry to see her go but know that an exciting adventure awaits her as she has been appointed Head Mistress of Sacred Heart School of Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada. I can't thank Gordon Sharafinski, Andrea Shurley and Sister Anne Wachter enough for serving the Schools of the Sacred Heart community with the utmost integrity, intellect and passion. Womens History Month Commendation for Melissa Rich March 6, 2012 Every March the Board of Supervisors honors an individual from their district in celebration of Womans History Month. This year I was proud to honor District 2 resident, Melissa Rich. Melissa is the founding CEO of Interschola, a Presidio based corporation that helps schools and public agencies find budget support through the sale of surplus goods. Melissas company Interschola has provided a service to the community while achieving year over year growth. Interschola now represents a third of all California School Districts. In 2010, the San Francisco Business Times named Interschola one of the Bay Areas 100 Fastest Growing Companies.

IN THE COMMUNITY
Crissy Field Tour March 7, 2012

I was privileged to tour the new Crissy Field Center with Frank Dean, Carol Prince, Howard Levitt and Doug Overman of the Nation Park Service. The location is absolutely stunning, and the architectural emphasis on recycled materials and low energy use fits the urban ecology focus. The building will serve as a teaching tool itself, and incredibly, it has all been accomplished in nine months. I would strongly encourage everyone to visit the new site. More information may be found at: http://www.parksconservancy.org/programs/crissyfield-center/. Presidio YMCA Tour March 7, 2012: On March 7, I met with Suzanne M. Dito and Lara Hitchcock of the Presidio YMCA for a tour of their facility. This YMCA has been serving the needs of the Presidio community since 1898 and in the three current facilities in the Presidio since 1997. They serve over 21,000 people from many neighborhoods in San Francisco.

Marina Merchants Meeting March 7, 2012

I attended the Marina Merchants Meeting in March. Discussion topics included permits for extended hours for live music and public safety issues, the Americas Cup and how local businesses can benefit from the races. I had a follow up meeting with a number of merchants in City Hall to discuss exciting ways for merchants to bolster business while getting involved with the community. We thank you all for making Chestnut Street and surrounding streets a thriving merchant corridor and look forward to collaborating on future events and opportunities. Tech SF Launch March 8, 2012: I was honored to join the Mayor in helping to launch Tech SF and to announce a $5 million grant from the US Department of Labor to train and re-skill San Franciscans in the high-demand technology and IT job markets. This initiative will use this grant to help the City fund partnering training programs with private companies and non-profits

that will benefit SF residents, including minorities and underserved communities and will also serve local jobseekers including the long-term unemployed. Irelands National Day Flag Raising March 9, 2012

On March 9th, my father and I attended Irelands National Day Flag Raising. City Halls tradition of flag raising is its way of honoring the diverse international community in San Francisco. Being of Irish descent, it was great to take part in this event with my father in celebration of our heritage. Opening of San Francisco Little League March 10, 2012

This year I was honored to throw the first pitch of the SF Little League season with my son Jack at my side. (I look forward to one day coaching his Little League team). San Francisco Little League has grown to include over 100 teams which play in many parks throughout the city including a number in the Presidio. Little League was so popular this year that registration closed within minutes. Opening Day included a parade of decorated trucks beginning in the Presidio and traveling down Union and Chestnuts Streets, a ceremony welcoming all the players and a fabulous BBQ. My family and I were thrilled to be part of this event, and we had a great time. St. Patricks Day Parade March 17, 2012 My family and I were excited to participate in this years St. Patricks Day Parade the citys 160th celebration of this event. Although rain threatened to ruin the day, the skies cleared in time for the parade and the weather was beautiful. The St. Patricks Day Parade was a very successful event and it was a great way to celebrate my Irish heritage with my family and thousands of other Irish descendants in the City & County of San Francisco.

Jobs & Innovation Tech Panel March 20, 2012 In March, I attended the Jobs & Innovation Technology Breakfast with Mayor Lee. As part of the event, I took part in a panel discussion which offered a fresh look at industry trends, future markets, new products, and an analysis of techs impact on SF culture and economy. The panel discussed the migration of tech companies to SF, collaborative consumption challenging the status quos, and social content curation as potentially muli-billion dollar markets. The importance and challenge of supporting tech companies in SF as well as recruiting/training local residents, issues which I strongly support, were highlighted. I also discussed how the technology community has grown over the last several years and will continue to grow in the future. Supes for Lunch at the Chamber March 28, 2012

I was happy to speak at the Supes for Lunch at the Chamber of Commerce event. I discussed redistricting, RCV and how relationships at City Hall, for the most part, have improved and we are working together to achieve common goals. I also spoke about how San Francisco can use both legislative and creative means to incentivize businesses to move to San Francisco. Silicon Valley Regional Economic Summit March 30, 2012

I was honored to take part in the Silicon Valley Regional Economic Forum. While there, I took part in a panel discussion with several other notable speakers on the direction of the Silicon Valley Innovation Economy. I took away many ideas that will help to inform my policies and ideas about how to keep San Francisco competitive and a place where tech companies want to do business. Spring Eggstravaganza in Golden Gate Park April 7, 2012 On April 7th I joined thousands of other kids at the Recreation and Parks Departments third annual Spring Eggstravaganza at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park. This years theme was Alice in Recreation Land. Along with other family friendly activities, the Eggstravaganza featured a rib cookoff between the San Francisco Police and Fire Departments which I was happy to take part in as judge. Proceeds from the cook-off go to the Rec and Parks Department's scholarship fund, which helps low-income families

send their children to local recreational programs. In 2011 alone, the department offered scholarships to more than 2,000 low-income San Francisco kids and their families! Union Street Easter Parade April 8, 2012 I was delighted to participate as the Grand Marshall in the 21st Annual Union Street Spring Celebration & Easter Parade. As usual the parade was wonderful, wacky, elegant and fabulous, with everything from rollerblading cows and creative self-propelled mini-floats to garden areas, sophisticated fashions and beautiful classic and art cars including the one in which I was driven. This is such a great family-friendly event. I encourage everyone to participate next year. Our family is definitely looking forward to it. Budget Town Hall Meeting April 9, 2012 On April 9, 2012, I joined Mayor Ed Lee, Supervisors David Chiu and Carmen Chu and several department heads, including Chief of Police Greg Suhr and Fire Chief Hayes-White, to discuss this years upcoming budget. This event was designed to get the public more involved in the budget process and to educate residents about the Mayor's budget principles as he builds a balanced two-year budget. Thank you to District 2 residents Greg Scott and Bill Hudson for summarizing their budget concerns for their particular neighborhoods and a special thanks to Tina Moylan, President of the Russian Hill Neighbors, for moderating the entire event. Union Street Association Meeting Eleanor Carpenter honored April 11, 2012 On April 11th, I attended the Union Street Merchants Association meeting to touch base and to provide an update about citywide and District 2 issues. I was especially honored to surprise Eleanor Carpenter, President of the association for over a decade, with a Certificate of Honor commending her service to Union Street and District 2. Her hard work has helped make Union Street a unique and special place helping small businesses flourish and creating new opportunities for others. Because of the work of Eleanor and other board members, including Lesley Leonhardt, Union Street has grown into a thriving merchant corridor, a home for restaurants, and a place for family events like the Union Street Festival and Easter Parade. Eleanor fought to bring more restaurants to Union Street, and helped ensure continued economic growth by supporting the renovation of the Metro Theater. She also maintains her own successful business, Jest Jewels on Union Street, which is an extremely popular boutique accessory shop. We cant thank her enough for her dedication. Parks Bond Meeting with Districts 2 & 3 April 12, 2012 The neighborhood discussion around the 2012 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond took place across the city and with over 40 meetings held in neighborhood recreation centers and clubhouses. In partnership with the Recreation and Parks Department we held two local neighborhood meetings to gather input and feedback on your highest priorities for the bonds funding. The insights told us whether failing playgrounds or irrigation upgrades, pool renovations or water conservation would be an improvement to your quality of life and enhance your life here in the City. Thank you to everyone who participated in these meetings and to the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department for their hard work and incredible outreach into the community.

Healthy Kids Day at the Presidio YMCA April 14, 2012

Promoting long term health is very important to me personally, and for my family. In celebration of these goals, I sponsored "Healthy Kids Day" along with the Presidio YMCA and the San Francisco Fire Department on April 14th. My family and I had a great time starting with the pancake and fruit breakfast. Also on hand were free bike-powered smoothies, a meet and greet with San Francisco firefighters, a bike rodeo, and a family hike. I look forward to being involved next year. This is another great family event to get up early on a Saturday morning for. Plan C Annual Membership Meeting April 16, 2012 I spoke at Plan C's Annual Membership Meeting on April 16th at the Swedish-American Music Hall. We discussed the latest happenings at City Hall as well as best practices in TIC management and paths to home ownership. There was also a panel of experts to discuss these issues in depth including David R. Gellman of the law firm Goldstein, Gellman, Melbostad, Harris & McSparran, LLP, Theo Albers of San Francisco TIC Financial Services and Amanda Jones of Sotheby's International Realty. As I told everyone that evening, I look forward to pressing for reform around our Citys Condominium Conversion Law and to offer a solution to those who have been on the waiting list for years. Starbucks 20th Anniversary in San Francisco - Friday April 27, 2012 It was my pleasure to be part of Starbucks 20th Anniversary of doing business in San Francisco. The event was marked with an open tasting of many of their coffees and treats and many thank yous to the hard working people who turn the Union St (at Laguna) Starbucks location into a community and not just a coffee shop. It was also an opportunity for the company to be recognized for their extensive contribution back to the community over the last 20 years they have been in San Francisco. Today, Starbucks employs over 1000 people in San Francisco, and has donated over $700,000 to San Francisco-based charities and supports San Franciscos zero waste goals. In 1995, Starbucks was one of the first employers in San Francisco to offer healthcare benefits to domestic partners, two years before the City and County of San Francisco enacted its non-discrimination in healthcare benefits ordinance. I was honored to present them with a Certificate of Honor from the Board of Supervisors for their partnership in our community and in our District. Cow Hollow Association Annual Meeting Wednesday May 2, 2012 I was honored to speak at the Cow Hollow Associations annual meeting once again this year. CHAs annual meeting always brings in a huge crowd at the St. Francis Yacht Club and this year was no exception. In addition to my remarks, their speaker for the night was Mayor Ed Lee. I kicked off the meeting with an overview of the latest news out of City Hall and an update on District 2 issues, specifically mentioning the Doyle Drive project, the Americas Cup and the CPMC project that was just approved at the

Planning Commission. Mayor Lee touched on his values and his vision for the City. Overall, it was a fantastic meeting looking forward to next year. Lafayette Park Renovation Groundbreaking Saturday May 5, 2012

The Friends of Lafayette Park have done an amazing job of fundraising and put in some good ol fashioned elbow grease volunteer hours to make this very event happen. The 2008 Clean and Safe Parks bond set aside funds for repair of the restroom facilities, the children's play area, picnic area, courts and upgrade lighting and irrigation. But the Friends of Lafayette Park, with President Lynne Newhouse-Segal at the helm, did not stop there. The group built on the momentum of the 2008 Park Bond and privately raised over $500,000 to date to create a world-class play area for children and families. We look forward to the Grand Opening in about a year and enjoying the park with my children for many years to come. Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Tuesday May 8, 2012 It was an honor to recognize Rodney Fong for this years Asian Pacific Heritage Month Commendation ceremony at the Board of Supervisors. Rodney is a native San Franciscan like me, and raising his family here in San Francisco. He is the third generation to own and operate the Wax Museum at the Fishermans Wharf. Over last 50 years his family has built the area and the Wax Museum business into thriving entertainment complex. Rodney directs business and marketing activities for the familys enterprises and is actively involved in operational management. Most recently, Rodney was elected by his colleagues as President at the Planning Commission. It is great to have him as a District 2 resident, business owner adding to the fabric of the business community and my pick for Asian Pacific Heritage Month. Bike to Work Day Thursday May 10, 2012 On May 10, 2012, I joined constituents and a number of representatives from the Bicycle Coalition for another great Bike to Work Day. It was a great morning riding from District 2 to City Hall. We started from 2156 Chestnut Street at 7:45 a.m. and arrived at City Hall just after 8:00 a.m. for the press conference. This year there were energizer stations set up in District 2 and many other neighborhoods across the city offering free coffee, snacks and other goodies, and at select locations, mechanics even checked out bicycles for free. Thank you to Andy Thornley and the Bicycle Coalition for putting together another great event. Mothers Day Press Conference - Thursday May 10, 2012 I was honored to attend the San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium's Annual Mother's Day Press Conference. Unfortunately domestic violence occurs in every neighborhood of San Francisco and across every income level. We are lucky that San Francisco has been

extremely successful in reducing DV-related homicides by 80%. The Mayor also announced on the same of the press conference that he will protect Domestic Violence program funding over the next two fiscal years thus maintaining current levels of funding. Thank you to everyone at the San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium (SFDVC) for working extremely hard to save so many lives. SFDVC was founded in 1982 and is dedicated to eliminating domestic violence and ensuring the basic rights of safety, self-determination and well-being to victims and survivors of domestic violence and their children. Americas Cup Panel with Russian Hill Neighbors - Thursday May 10, 2012 It was my pleasure and honor to be on an Americas Cup panel sponsored by Russian Hill Neighbors. The panel brought together the best of the Americas Cup planners to give an inside look into how the City is organizing and preparing for the hundreds of thousands of spectators. The event was moderated by Supervisor David Chiu and SFPD Deputy Chief Jim Dudley, America's Cup Project Director Peter Albert and America's Cup Communications Director Jane Sullivan accompanied me at the table. The group has put a tremendous amount of time into the flow of traffic, parking and transportation as well as the publics peace and safety. This group is working forwards making this an exciting but also a well run event that will hopefully turn a once in a lifetime opportunity into a reoccurring benefit for the entire city. Small Business Appreciation Month Tuesday May 15, 2012 In honor of Small Business Appreciation Month, this year I chose to commend the Marina Times for publishing a solid community newspaper for the past 26 years. With approximately 40 writers, the Marina Times consistently delivers up to date community news as well as hard-hitting investigative pieces and an arts, culture and entertainment section like no other. With Editor in Chief, Susan Dyer Reynolds at the helm, the Marina Times has evolved into a beloved and informative neighborhood newspaper with a circulation of 30,000 newspapers per month, including door to door delivery in the Marina, Cow Hollow and Pacific Heights neighborhoods. We look forward to reading the Marina Times for years to come.
