Microtest 300B and 2000B vertical bending modules

Materials testing in the SEM allows dynamic studies of mechanical properties at the microstructural level, making full use of the depth of field, high resolution imaging and analytical capabilities of this powerful instrumentation.
Microtest 300B and 2000B modules can be fitted directly to the standard sample stage of a wide variety of SEMs. Alternatively the module can be used on the bench under a long working distance optical microscope.

Microtest 300B and 2000B modules are designed to achieve a vertical load from beneath a specimen under observation in the SEM. Standard load-cells of 300 N (MTEST 300B) and 2000 N (MTEST 2000B) are provided, with more sensitive load-cells available as options. A resolution of < 150 mN is achieved with a 150 N load cell. Interchangeable 3- and 4-point bending clamps are provided as standard. The specimen is supported from beneath by fixed point(s), while the ends of the specimen are driven downwards. This means that the high strain region of interest is in view of the electron beam and remains in focus. The versatile Microtest software allows constant speed, constant load or low frequency cycling modes of operation, with additional capabilities e.g. for ramping to a pre-set load. Load and extension are plotted in real time on a graphical display which features cursors, multi-range and zoom facilities. The MTVideo option allows synchronized video and data acquisition. This allows subsequent detailed analysis of a movie of the sample deformation.
