Institute Registration Alumni and Friends of Teach For America have the opportunity to welcome the incoming corps members to our institute. Volunteers will be assigned to a variety of different stations for corps members including, helping CMs move in to their dorm rooms, greeting them with their nametag and lanyard, setting up printing and internet on their computers, passing out institute curriculum, etc. June 17 8:30 am 5: 30 pm (3 hour shifts) Illinois institute of Technology McCormick Student Village May 25, 2012 (next steps/details to follow) Demi Taylor Demitra.taylor@teachforamerica.org All types of volunteers are welcome, but someone with strong interpersonal skills that will help corps members feel welcomed in to Teach For America and inspired about the work they are about to engage in.

Corps Community Group Leader Corps Community groups (CCGs) are voluntary groups that meet weekly during institute to discuss similar interests or identities and/or participate in events of similar interest. The groups are created for CMs and staff to feel supported and meet new people at institute. In seeking out Corps Community Group leaders, our goal is to get CMs and institute staff interested in these groups and participate in discussions and activities aligned to their shared interests.. CCGs should purposefully answer the first question on the institute survey stating, I felt part of a welcoming environment while at institute. The ultimate goal is that all CMs and staff feel welcomed and supported at institute given their diverse backgrounds. Some interpersonal CCG examples include but are not limited to: skills, strong instruction, Latino/Hispanic CCG Diversity trait, African American CCG etc.) Asian America CCG LGBTQ CCG Running/Fitness CCG Yoga CCG CCG of Faith/Religion Sports Lovers CCG Food Lovers CCG Golf, Tennis, etc. CCG Game Night CCG Movie/ Documentary Discussions CCG Low Income Community CCG Major responsibilities include coming up with an agenda/activity to lead meetings/activities every week, gathering contact information from participants, promoting the group around campus, and tracking participants such that the CCG continues throughout the duration of institute. Leaders may lead meetings/activities according to the group interest or however they see fit. As the group leader it is important to encourage as much participation as possible because these community groups are to help CMs and staff get involved and feel supported at institute. CCG leaders will be supported by institute staff in terms of room reservations and promoting their group to corps members and staff prior to institute and on campus. As many as are interested!

Workshop Facilitators Workshops are a variety of sessions designed to meet CM needs and interests. These optional learning experiences allow CMs to really take ownership over their professional development by determining which sessions will most enhance their own effectiveness. We hope to have full coverage of various content and instructional strategies, as well as workshops focused on the larger context surrounding our work. To this end we ask you to consider submitting a workshop proposal based on your own interest and skill. Workshops should be 30 minutes in length.
