Introduction The usage of smart mobile devices is the in trend today. It is popular among all age groups, old or young, any working class as well as students. In year 2010 alone, around 0.26 billion 260,000,000 of smartphones were sold. According to Gartner (2010), the sales on smartphones will increase by 100% each year and in 2012, it is expected to surpass the sales on PCs. However, has anyone ever questioned, why is the use of smartphones are so in trend? Is it because of the advance functions they provide or it is just the in-style or a must have gadget among us despite the high cost? We are to carry out a survey among UBD lecturers and students and compare the collected results between these two groups. Objectives/Aims: 1. To find the main objective in owning a smart mobile devices. 2. To find out whether owning smartphone/s they owned is useful to them (need) or is just another in-trend gadget (want). 3. To find if the use of smartphones increase the efficiency of their work. Survey Plan We have prepared a few examples of questions for the survey. Please refer to Insert 1 for the sample. These questions are designed to counterpart with our objectives. Questions are not fixed yet; we may add or remove them, subject to relevancy. Once the questions are fixed, we will print and distribute them to our target audiences for them to fill in and accumulate the data collected. Data will be analysed and will be assess with our objectives.

Short Literature Review The fastest growing market today is the market for smart mobile devices. With launching of the first iPhone in year 2003, Apple has fortified the smartphones product competition among the telephony world and accelerated the uniting of the traditional mobile phones with the use of internet services and personal computing into a new industry (Kenny & Pon, 2011). In this 21st century, everyday life has been evolving around the virtual world for communication, entertainment, security system, navigation and even to carry out businesses. Smartphones are a dominant gadget in the technology world today as they offer native wireless voice services, video calling, software application as well as being able to connect to the internet on-the-go basis to access email, geo-mapping, video streaming, online gaming and the popular activities today, social networking. Smart mobile devices were invented to assist the busy working class as well as university students in the western world such as America as well as the eastern countries such as Singapore and Japan. Here in Brunei Darussalam, it can be seen that smart mobile devices are not fully utilized to their benefits. First of all, Bruneis working society has not reached the hectic lifestyle yet. There are some who are exceptional we expect but if it is to compare with the number of people who owned smart mobile devices, it is insignificant. Societies here, including students, seldom practice emailing, which is one of the main reasons smartphones were invented. It can be noticed that smartphones are mostly used for social networking here such as Facebooking, Twittering and Instangraming. Smartphones are also designed as a navigation tool. However, due to Brunei being a small region, this function is not being used completely. The hypothesis in regard to the above topic is that most of the smartphones owned are not completely utilized and that it is just in-style trend among the young generations. Nevertheless, we hope that after the survey, the date collected could verify our hypothesis wrong.
