Crime writers all have different styles of how they write their novels but there are basic

aspects that all writers apply to their stories. Plot matters, but characterisation and atmosphere are equally important the days when readers of crime novels would put up with 300 pages of lifeless text, as many did in the years between the two World Wars, are gone and those writers who concentrated on plot alone are now forgotten. Most crime writers suggest using detective characters. Detective characters have been appealing since the days of Sherlock Holmes so most writers seem to apply such character in their story. They then have the task of creating an interesting murderer, victim and motive. After that, comes the means by which a certain character might discover the murder. Then they turn their heads to other aspects or side stories that add suspense or mystery to the initial crime. The last thing to create is the setting or atmosphere. The setting and atmosphere has to be correctly chosen to best accompany the story. If the setting isnt correctly applied to they storyline the suspense or mystery might not evident.

If one things leads to another, a series of events happen, each one caused by the previous one. In this case a mystery is the vehicle to other focuses .
