LGBT Helpline seeks a Communications Intern

The LGBT Helpline is a national support service for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people and their family and friends. The LGBT Helpline provides support and information through two main channels: 1. A confidential Lo-Call telephone helpline: 1890 929 539 2. A dedicated website: www.lgbt.ie The LGBT Helpline is inviting applications for a Communications intern. The Intern will assist the National Helpline Co-ordinator. This is a six month internship from July to the end of December 2012. Expenses of up to 20 per day for travel and subsistence will be paid. The interested applicant should be available to work 3 days per week from 9am to 5pm.

Job Description - key areas of responsibility: To assist in the implementation of the LGBT Helplines communications strategy To assist in the co-ordination of campaigns and other activities set out in workplans agreed To participate in managing the LGBT Helplines website, facebook, twitter and Newsletter/Bulletin To assist in the day to day communications and fundraising work To assist in the support of other volunteers e.g. helpline and fundraising To undertake administrative duties Any other responsibilities as required in the interests of the LGBT Helpline The post holder will be expected to undertake any other responsibilities as required in the interests of the LGBT Helpline. The post holder will be expected to attend work-related meetings, to implement actions agreed by these meetings where appropriate and to work, as required, some weekends and evenings with time off in lieu. Person Specification: Qualifications and education/training: An appropriate third level qualification or equivalent experience. Experience: Administrative experience

Communications experience

Knowledge: Experience of working with a helpline. Understanding of LGBT issues. Understanding of and a commitment to the promotion of equality for LGBT people

Skills and abilities: Excellent oral and written communications skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills. IT skills (i.e. website maintenance, data-base maintenance). Administration and organisational skills essential. Flexibility in adapting to changing and developing roles. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to identify opportunities. Excellent interpersonal skills. Problem solving skills. Ability to plan and prioritise own work. Ability to represent the LGBT Helpline in a professional manner Ability to maintain a high level of social, organisational and professional standards in job-related activities.
