I am an organised, attentive and confident History graduand with experience of working in political journalism and activism. Ultimately I hope to become a political correspondent, communications director or civil servant. Work Experience Guardian Students/Ones To Watch - Blog Coordinator- May 2012- present -A part time volunteer position where I am responsible for writing and commissioning approximately two blog posts per week on student journalism and its role in student life and the media industry. Finding the best young student writers and giving them a platform to explore their work. Emerging Students- Current Affairs Editor- January 2012 - present -Editing and commissioning articles on current affairs and managing a pool of volunteer writers around the world for an international magazine aimed at students and young people. Recent articles include a polemic against Beauty Pageants like Miss Undergraduate Birmingham and an analysis of KONY 2012 and the implications of social media on non-profit activism. Redbrick (Student Newspaper)- Senior Reporter October 2010 to present. - Winner of Best Investigative Piece Award at annual Redbrick Awards in 2011, on the ground reporter for Birmingham Riots coverage in August 2011, sourced and took my own pictures of the damage which were featured on the website and other syndicated media. Leeds Guide- Editorial Intern- September- November 2011 -Writing cultural reviews, taking photos to be featured in the magazine, interviewing local businesses and managing online content. Adfero News Agency (Direct News)- Research and Reporting Intern- August 2011 -Newsgathering, researching, interviewing and reporting on a variety of different topics such as finance, education, business and travel for a deadline and SEO orientated B2B online news agency Penguin Books- Work Experience- July- August 2011 -Working in the Marketing and Publicity Department, researching issues like Forced Marriage for future publicity campaigns, some market research, writing press releases, carrying out basic office tasks like photocopying, filing, copy editing letters and internal memos.

Cancer Research UK- Marketing and Communications Intern- Apr 2011-Jun 2011 - Working from home to promote the Race for Life around the West Midlands, Administration Manager at Race for Life Coventry, securing ad space in local media, promotional stalls and publicity for around 25 events in Birmingham and Coventry, secured a publicity stall at the Baby Show at the NEC in May at a 25% discount. Birmingham Mail, Edinburgh Evening News, The York Press - Work Experience January- July 2011 - Shared a front page byline for helping to cover a flash flood that hit whilst I was out on assignment in Edinburgh, covering and sourcing my own news stories, conducting formal interviews in house and informal interviews with protesters during the Teachers Unions March through Birmingham City Centre, assisting the production of multimedia and video content. READ International Volunteer- August - September 2010 -Part of a group sent to Lindi in southern Tanzania to distribute recycled textbooks to secondary schools donated by schools in the West Midlands -Gave lessons about life in the UK and tried to engage with secondary schools there to foster a culture of reading. We also renovated a library in one of the schools in the main town in the region (also called Lindi) with the help of its 6th form students. -Liaised with local government officials who provided transport for the project. Harrogate Grammar School- September 2002- May 2009 International Baccalaureate 35 points (AAA A-Level equivalent)- 7- History, 6Economics, 6- English 11 GCSEs A*-B- Including English, Maths and Science and two modern foreign languages Speaks good French with some Italian and a little Japanese.
