PASTORS CORNER
Dear Parishioners, This weekend I offer for your consideration a Reflection by Sr. Stefanie Weisgram, OSB. Msgr. Richard Who is God for you? Do you see God as the Fatheror the Sonor as the Holy Spirit? Today of all days, the Feast of Pentecost, is it easy to imagine the Holy Spirit. The disciples might have been all together in one place, but if they had planned on a quiet time together the Spirit changed that by coming with noise and fire. It was anything but privateand anything but silent. Even more, the Spirit changed things by empowering the disciples to speak in different tongues as they proclaimed the mighty acts of God. Everyone could understand in their own native languages. Did you notice that as amazing as this was, we dont hear anything like Wow! Listen to us! Arent we amazing? It would be odd if the disciples werent amazed. What was important to them, however, was that they were able to tell about those mighty deeds of God to everyone because the Spirit had empowered them. So does the Holy Spirit empower each of us and with different gifts. What is the Spirit empowering each of us to do or to be? Might it be to proclaim the mighty acts of God in our lives? Might it be to do some service for others? Might it be to make a change in my life? Perhaps I need to set aside some time to think about what the Spirit is asking of me right now. We know that Jesus promised that he would send the Spirit to be with us and to guide us to all truth. Like the disciples, we too are filled with the Spirit and are called to bear witness to that Spirit. Maybe what we need to do most is to pray to that Spirit, to ask for the knowledge to know to what we are individually called.
Stefanie Weisgram, a sister of Saint Benedicts Monastery, St. Joseph, Minnesota, serves as librarian at the College of Saint Benedict and St. Johns University.
