Mayoral Candidate Profile: David Cordle

By Zaina Adamu Republican mayoral candidate David Cordle doesnt sugar coat the issues that mean the most to him. When he announced his candidacy in February, he already knew what was ahead. He recognized the city of Annapolis needed some adjustment. We can expect a lot of change. Im going to make sure that we have a city manager that runs dayto-day operations. I want to make sure its not just someone who is qualified, but has experience. What Cordle is looking for in a city manager is what he himself has gained throughout the years. In 1984, he was named an Outstanding Young Annapolitian finalist by the Annapolis Jaycees, a volunteer and service organization based in Annapolis. He received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware. Shortly after, he joined the United States Army Reserve, where he became a Lieutenant Colonel for the 468th Transportation Detachment. His most recent position, one he has held for 20 years, is Chief Investigator for the States Attorneys Office. There he performs investigations ranging from check frauds to homicides. His straightforward right-winged spending philosophy is what Cordle will be building his campaign around, although he knows Annapolis deficit will not be easy to recover. I am going to go out and give my message based on my vision and goals for the city, he said. We need to change the way we do business. When asked if he was satisfied with the political state of Annapolis, he replied, Not at all. There are some

On lighter terms, Cordle is keen on restoring Annapolis heritage by investing in Annapolis cultural health and focusing on rebuilding neglected infrastructure. As mayor of Annapolis, his plans will stretch beyond politics, partly due to his familys history in the city. His great grandfather was a Chesapeake Bay oysterman while his great grandmother served as a city clerk during the mid-1900s. I just love Annapolis, he says. I left for college but decided to come back to my hometown. He acknowledges his hometown is not what it used to be, but suggests the uphill battle will be well worth the fight. There are going to be some bumps along the way, but well just keep going forward and do the best we can.
