General Introducti on

GENERAL INTRODUCTION
The development of this series of standard methods of test for rubber was undertaken
by the Association’s subcommittees for Physical Testing and Analysis of Rubber.
These committees acted on the advice of their parent Committee RU/-, Advisory
Committee on Standards for the Rubber Industry, which established the needs and
priorities from two main sources, viz:
• A survey of the needs of Australian organizations operating in the field of
rubber testing.
• A study of the needs and basis stemming from Australian participation on

the developments of the relevant proceedings of the International

Organization for Standardization (ISO).
In preparing these methods of test acknowledgment is made of information
received from the International Organization for Standardization, the British Standards
Institution and the American Society for Testing and Materials.

SCOPE, ARRANGEMENT AND

APPLICATION
This is a free 7 page sample. Access the full version at http://infostore.saiglobal.com.

1 SCOPE. This standard comprises a series of general methods for the sampling
of latex and for the examination of the physical and chemical properties of various
types of rubber in various states.

The methods are intended primarily to service relevant Australian standard

specifications but may also find application in research and development work.

2 ARRANGEMENT. Where applicable, every attempt has been made to allocate

test method numbers in the naturally-occurring order of the tests. However, the
progressive availability of ISO methods and the establishment of genuine need through
irregular demands have not permitted an exhaustive survey of the relevant methods.

3 APPLICATION. When stipulated in a specification, the methods shall form part

of that specification and shall be subject to any qualifications or modifications so
specified.
