BRIEF TITLE BRIEF 1 : YEAR BOOK : PRINTED TEXTILES & SURFACE PATTERN
BRIEF DESCRIPTION
A collaborative brief between Robyn Russell, Sam Wallbank, Will Duffy, Paul Brendeth and I. We were originally two separate groups pitching for the Yearbook brief but because of the nature of our concepts our groups were joined together as one big group. The brief was to design a year book for the course, Printed Textiles and Surface Patterns.
CONCEPT
The overall brief was actually different from what a conventional yearbook would be as the course leaders, instead of a yearbook they wanted something more like a coffee table book that explains the course in general rather than having a student per page. Therefore the concept for the book is to use simple layout and just let the images speak for themselves. Obviously we had to include the work of all the third year students but then also show their work as being part of the course rather than an individual designer.
SOLUTION
The coffee table book was split into 3 different sections, the idea stages, the process and the finished pieces of work. This was because the course is based heavily on drawings or process such as screen printing etc. and therefore it isnt just about the finished work but the material and the processes that each students go through .

ORIGINAL PITCH
Originally this was a pitch from Robyn, Tom Cummings and me for the graphic design year book. Our concept is to deliver the idea of leeds college of arts graphic design course working together as a family. The idea is to create a visually abstract family tree that would work throughout the book to highlight each individual as well as showcasing the fact everyone works together as a team. This concept combined with the other groups which was to use aphotography as a narrative to show everyones work process stood out as something that would be really appropriate for printed textiles & surface pattern course.

ROLES
We were all very much involved in the initial stages of the project, coming up with the initial concepts to pitch to the clients, the ideas, the structure of the book etc. However, when were got further into the project everyone were assigned to different roles. As Sam and Paul have done a lot of work on layout etc. they were both incharged of the lay out of the images. Robyn worked on the layout for the text and Will and I came up with designs for the cover.
MY ROLE
I came up with a few typographic solutions for the cover of the yearbook which could be applied over an image of just used on a flkat coloured background.

COVERS
Will proposed that we use a tile of images of all the students work on the course and just add a simple type on top of the image. The client didnt like the thick type and that the fact it was on top of the images. So we altered the cover and the type. ( as seen on the first board)
